Good Rest Stop on the Wild South Coast
Oct 2020
A good rest stop to appreciate the Wild South Coast and the Te Waewae Bay.
It was an extremely windy evening when we visited with a storm approaching, which only added to charm of this remote location.

Nice place to stretch your legs
Jul 2020
Not a bad place to stop on a nice day, with ocean views overlooking Te Waewae Bay, and the distant peaks of the southern part of the Southern Alps. Stewart island can be seen on clear days.

Last stop Antarctica
Feb 2020
You must stop here if you are on the Southern route. Take time to read the information posted by the carpark, and look south out to sea and think of the brave explorers, fishermen, and colonial pioneers who travelled this coast line. You might see whales or dolphins...and dress warm.

Rest Area Lookout.
Oct 2019
Good views of the wild Te Wae Wae bay and the bottom end of Fiordland National Park. Its a wild and remote bit of coastline. The McCracken name comes from a local family.

Great views
Jan 2019 • Couples
If you want to see some fantastic views of this coastline, this is the place to stop. There is a viewing area and you will not be disappointed. Just be prepared for the weather conditions, which can be windy and cold, even in summertime.

Must stop
Feb 2019 • Friends
If you are driving this route, You must stop here. You can have a brief visit or a longer more relaxed visit if the weather is right for a longer stop. Most people will recommend the amazing views of the sea, the mountains or the countryside. Or just the sheer exhilaration of a windswept crag or the view of turbulent seas. My recommendation: it has one of the very best display boards with the story of the area that I have seen in my travels. Well worth the time it takes to read the timeline. Well done to those who designed it

First Glimpse of Snow Capped Mountains
Sep 2018 • Couples
We had been travelling down the East Coast from Christchurch and were heading up to Te Anau when we came across this great rest area right beside the coast. Fabulous views of the coastline and another distance post. This was the first place we saw snow on top of the mountains.
Great spot to stop and stretch your legs and admire the views.

A great spot to break your journey
May 2018 • Friends
Visited on Thursday 3rd May. We stopped here to stretch our legs while driving from Invercargill to Te Anau in our campervan. On a fine day you could even go for a walk along the beach.

Lovely lookout
May 2018 • Couples
This is a great place to stop and take in the views. The rolling surf, green pastures and s backdrop of pointy snow capped mountains. It is a exposed site so can be windy and cold

Wonderful view point
Mar 2018 • Friends
One of the finest viewpoints on this coast line, overlooking the sea and bay to the distant islands. Great picnic spot, and an information board offering some details around the area.
