Five stones suite - when the details really matter
Jul 2021 • Couples
My husband and I stayed at five stones suite, part of the Cairns Alpine report in Tekapo. What more could we want? All the details are sorted. A gorgeous, comfortable and well thought out space perfect for couples. We were greeted with a lovely welcoming card, chocolate and bubbles! The kitchen is well equipped and has a lot of thoughtful touches not often seen, such as salt, pepper and cooking oil. The bed is comfortable and the room was extremely clean. There is even a gorgeous outdoor bath! There were people in the lodge next door and we didn’t notice them or hear anything, despite them being close by. Would highly recommend a stay here, the extra details make it a very comfortable and enjoyable stay

Such a wee gem of a find! Stayed here a couple of nights and for sure will be back! Highly recommend the little lodges, they have everything you need and that beanbag in front of the fire is heaven!

Fantastic!!

Didn’t intend to stay in Tekapo - but got there late and found Lexi’s Lodge at The Cairns - such a great spot we ended up staying two nights!! Really cute private cottage - one of several - really spacious, tasteful and relaxed decor complete with wood burner. Lovely farm like surrounds but right in the middle of Tekapo. Friendly helpful hosts - couldn’t recommend it more highly.

We stayed here for two nights in a lodge. It was absolutely perfect from start to finish. We had everything we could possibly need and excellent service esoecially from
Lisa . The highlights were the animals that the children could feed, especially whiskey the pig 🐷 who was such a delight and the golf ⛳️ We would highly recommend! 😊

WOW
Nov 2020 • Couples
Ok firstly we don't play golf so this review has nothing to do with the golf course, Honestly if you want a great friendly place close enough to walk into town but far enough out for some peace and quiet this is it, upon arrival we were greeted by the lovely whisky (the pet pig) then we were given a fresh baked loaf of bread ( a lovely treat) we were staying in the red hut and it was fantastic, full of old charm but complimented with modern fixtures and fitting a very modern and tidy bathroom, a stove top, microwave, fridge and all your utensils to cook, but with the choices only a 5-10 min walk away in town for eating you wouldn't need too, there's a small hill by the back deck we put the deck chairs on and had unsurpassed views of the lake and mountains, star gazing at night is fantastic and if you get a little cold there's a heat pump ....or a wonderful log fire inside. The spa pools are a short drive away or a nice walk if you feel like it, The only downside that my partner and I had was we didn't book in long enough, a truly wonderful stay, even if you only stay one night you'll feel relaxed and refreshed but I'd book longer than our two nights next time, can't recommend this place enough, We WILL be back

great views and tricky design but still work in progress
Nov 2018 • Couples
We have waited a few years to try out The Cairns a new golf course right in Lake Tekapo township supporting local property development. Some things are great. Like the stunning lake and mountain views, and the green fee is fair at $30. The design is clever and a challenge particularly in a big nor west wing. The 9 hole layout offers alternate tee blocks to make it interesting for men playing off the blue tees, But generally one block was scruffy or unfinished. The Women on the yellow tees were not given the same options. The greens are large and well kept. The fairways have been badly damaged by rabbits and rather than looking ahead for your ball - it is advisable and safer to watch where you step as a couple of rolled ankles will attest. The tracks which connect the holes are rough and in need of upkeep. A shame as it wouldn't take much to fix and enhance the reputation.

Picturesque and challenging
Aug 2018 • Couples
This 9 hole course was interesting, challenging and generally in great condition. The fairways did have some rabbit damage, but the greens, although slow, were true. The rough was harsh, with the tussock making the balls hard to find. We were advised to arm ourselves with plenty of balls, so it wasn’t an issue.

We had the course to ourselves, and despite the cold, thoroughly enjoyed our round. Trundlers and carts are available, and the lady in the payment office is friendly and helpful. Next time in Tekapo, we would definitely play there again.

Great 9 hole course with the most amazing views
Aug 2016 • Couples
The most amazing views of any course in New Zealand. An alpine course that can be pretty much played all year round. 9 holes of picturesque Central Otago country to put you off. Carts available and I used one this time although it is a fairly easy walk. Very much a risk and reward course with two par fours that for the big hitters greens can be reached with a big drive over water or play safe and get there for three by going round. Two long par 3's and two par 5's make this course playable for all handicaps. Fantastic and great value

Challenging course. Prepare extra balls.
Jun 2015 • Couples
After playing a few times at Akaroa Golf course (which is our favourite golf course), we thought Cairns golf course was an easy peasy. But it turns out it's a bit challenging.

We lost many balls at Hole 5 and 6, and had to drive back to the so-called club house to buy more balls. (FYI - there's no club house as such, but booking and chart rental can be done at the shop selling merino wools top).

My first impression? This golf course was pretty dry. But it's a nice course to play; will surely come back (perhaps on spring season when the grass is a little greener).

Great views, Fast greens
May 2015 • Couples
If you're into golfing without the big amenities, this is the place for you. The course is nice overall with fast greens and big fairways. There's no clubhouse or carts so be prepared to carry your clubs. There are rentals available from a place just down the road - there's a sign before the first tee that says where it is located.
