Reviewed yesterday NEW

We had been recommended by a friend to stay in Tekapo for 2 nights in case the sky was too cloudy for the trip to Mt John and so we did. Unfortunately the first night had 90% cloud cover and the next days trip at 7.30 pm was booked out which was disappointing. No matter - our voucher is still... More

A tremendous trip up the mountain on a mostly clear night to see the stars. We were picked up at our hotel and taken to the tour center where we boarded a bus to go to the top of the mountain. Be prepared to have the bus driver turn off the lights about 500M short of the top to get... More

Worth the price to get to see the stars from Mount John! Obviously the best spot on 370°C . The guide was very nice and clear when explaining about the southern Cross and the constellations. All the staff is very friendly, they try to keep you warm offering a hot chocolate ;) Also, it doesnt feel like a tourist attraction.... More

You do not expect to see and have a close look to sky and stars. If you have no much knowledge in sky, stars and planets, you will surely be disappointed, like me. In New Zealand, you can see clear sky and lots of stars everywhere at night. It is really beautiful. I joined this tour and expected to see... More

I adore star gazing and am a bit of an amateur astronomer so this should have been the perfect thing for me. I have been twice and in doing so have come to the conclusion that for the price you pay you get very little in return. You get an opportunity to look through some smaller telescopes, however you feel... More

Kia ora, Thank you for your feedback, it is greatly appreciated. It is unfortunate that you did not walk away from our Stargazing & Observatory Tour, reaching for the stars! We appreciate that not everyone will be interested in learning of the ground-breaking research, that is carried out at the southern most optical research facility in the world. Our astronomy... There are two tours one about midnight and a later 2pm night owl tour. The earlier one was fully booked so we went in the night owl tour. Its about 2 hours in total but only 10 min drive from the pick up point to mount John summit in minibus. This tour is slightly cheaper. We had 1.5 hours on... More

Awesome night tour of the Mount John Observatory. The guides are so passionate and knowledgeable about all things in the sky it's hard not to get infected with some starstruck devotion ! After what we saw at another star gazing location we felt very lucky to have chosen this trip. Super well organised and only comment would be the half... More

This tour was great. We learnt alot and the guides were very knowledgeable, and happy to answer any questions. I think for the price the tour would've been better if it lasted a little longer but I guess this is quite standard for New Zealand. We only wanted it to go on because we love it! The only things that... More

As a city girl, seeing the night stars like this was absolutely stunning. The guides were very informative, although a couple were more receptive to questions than the others. The ride up the hill in the big bus is a little scary, but the driver did a very good job of keeping guests informed about what was happening, which helped.... More
