About
A Garden of National Significance, this large country garden of trees, seasonal colour and diversity in landscaping, features a fine collection of exotic deciduous broadleaf and coniferous trees. The woodland gardens, shrub & perennial borders merge into the old growth forest hugging the 15-metre deep ravines enfolding the garden. The visitor experience includes fern gullies, waterfalls, ponds, suspension bridge, forest trails, native birds, and carpets of bluebells. Qualmark 4-star hosted accommodation enhances this special place.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

When we arrived, it was as if the workers were surprised to see anyone there. I don’t think they were expecting guests. Based on the other reviews, we were expecting something magic. We found overgrown gardens and statues that were knocked over and broken.

Te Popo is a special garden in central Taranaki. It includes 34 acres of woodland and 5 acres of garden. You will be amazing with the amount of work that goes into maintaining a garden this size. Definitely check out the suspension bridge.

I visited Te Popo Gardens this year and really enjoyed the variety of attractions there. The garden was a good size, not too small and not too big. Well worth the visit.

I stayed in the B&B associated with these gardens in May, 2007, but thought the Gardens deserved a note themselves. Although it was nigh to winter when I was there, the Gardens still had an abundance of colour. There are walking paths throughout, which allow you to enjoy the variety of plant life as well as the peaceful nature of the whole area. Walks vary from bush to a stroll about a parklike setting. You can relax with a book, enjoy the beauty of the Gardens' arrangement, and even take a stair down to the stream (and walk about should you be so inclined and have your wellies). There are also bridges across the stream to some bush walks; on a clear day you can see Mt Taranaki from the top of the hills. Lovely place; during Taranaki Rododendron Festival they MUST be incredible.

We had a great time strolling around the beautiful gardens at Te Pope. We loved the mix of open garden, forest, gorge and native plants. It is in a peaceful location. Les and Amanda welcomed us warmly and made sure we were comfortable. It is very a family friendly place to visit. Definitely, worth a repeat visit.

I really liked this garden that is open for the Taranaki Rhododendron Festival - lots of variety and a big garden to walk around, good value for money compared to others
