Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Mother Church of Caminha also named as Church of Our Lady of the Assumption. A Parish church and one of the largest and most important religious buildings in the north of the country. This Gothic, Manuelito and Renascentist church has been built inside the medieval fence of the village, and this on the vestiges of a primitive Romanesque chapel. The building of this church started into the year 1488 and has been completed into the year 1556 this with the tower of the main facade. For this reason, the temple features a complex combination of styles and influences. The church was closed on the moment of our visit, this happens often also in Spain.
It has been classified as a National Monument since June 16, 1910.

The church is not particularly imposing at first glance but it fits well into its surroundings in the old part of Camhina. We were lucky enough to be there during a religious procession which gave a much greater sense of its place in the town. The interior is certainly not as ornate as many others in Portugal but timber/wood finishes worth a visit.

The town’s main church is worth a visit. One of the best examples of the Portuguese gothic style; very harmonious. The additions along the centuries didn’t destroy its harmony, in fact the glaze tiles even brought more beauty to it. Unfortunately there was no publications about the church. Enjoy!

Dispite the lack of garden around the cathedral, the interior is actually nice. It gave me calm. Mandatory visit.

The Igreja Matriz is a really lovely old church still in use and close to the edge of the wall of the old town. You can see the church as you drive from the Foz do Minho to Seixas / Cerveira. You can park just opposite the chuch, walk toward th Pingo Doce supermarket and up the adjecent cobbled sidestreet. Literally 5 mins walk. Have a stroll by the church, up onto the walls and then back down. Its not Yorl Minster guys but it is a lovely piece of architecture and history. If your in Caminha - go see getting to it will take you down some ral quaint oldy worldy side streets where lots of new bars are starting up. Enjoy

Caminha is a pretty sleepy town (at least it was when we visited) and the church seemed to lie in an particularly sleepy quarter. So, we were not really expecting too much, but once we entered the place were just blown away by the stark, still beauty of the interior. Particularly memorable is the ceiling of inlaid panels of dark wood, running the length of the nave. It's stunning - and I had certainly not seen anything like it before.

It was a wonderful experience the Christmas concert last year! I hope we can enjoy it again this year! The conditions were great and it was not very cold. Great!

It is a large church, with defensive elements typical of fortresses and/or castles. it is located in the village, between beautiful streets.

Caminha, a beautiful Portuguese town that is worth visiting. On the last weekend of July, a very lively medieval festival is recreated.
