Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The guidebook suggested spending ten minutes in Loro to walk down to the old mill. It didn't say what a beautiful place Loro is, perched on its Tolkein-esque gorge. We spent rather longer.
If I say that it's a scruffy little old Italian town, that may sound like a mortal insult, but I don't mean it unkindly. The old houses with their pretty tiled roofs pile up on one another, some looking rather dilapidated, but it is a real village/small town with useful shops, and we stopped for a coffee in a small shop patronised by locals having a chat to the lady who runs it - in fact there was nothing touristy there at all, and the coffee and brioche was the cheapest we found in all Tuscany. I explained we wanted to sit down at the outside table to drink, but she told us there was no extra charge for sitting or standing.
There was nothing touristy about the mill, either, other than that it was old. Entrance was free - donations welcome for the upkeep - and the man who ran it explained how it operated. Alas, there had been no rain for over a week so the water that comes down from the hills, operated the machinery and then pours down into the gorge had dried up. He suggested we come back the following day as rain was expected, but we were heading home in the early hours so couldn't. (Hardly had we left than the rain began and was torrential all day and all night), But we did buy some flour, chestnut and ordinary, and now I have to find some recipes to do it justice. The owner doesn't speak English but whenever my Italian failed miserably we found that sign-language was perfectly adequate
Definitely worth more than ten minutes if you are in the Casentino.

Several friends of mine stayed in a nearby home right outside Loro Ciuffenna. One day while walking around the town we discovered this beautiful mill. The pictures simply do not do it justice. There is nearby a pizza place. Where you could easily grab a pie and enjoy the beauty. However, the pizza place is closed on Tuesday's and of course we visited on a Tuesday.

When staying in Loro Ciuffenna this bridge and view is one of those spots where you stop and relax because the view is so peaceful you must linger.

Europe is suffering from a prolonged drought and Italy is not spared. The river is barely a creek in most places and no water passes out of the flour mill. It was ghostly quiet and the grass (where water would have been running) was growing quite tall.
The mill is privately owned. It is a Loro Ciuffenna treasure and hopefully it will reopen or at least continue to be maintained. It adds so much to the charm of this Medieval Old Town.

The old mill is there, it exists and it is also very characteristic from the outside. It's a shame that the lady who was supposed to show us around arrived late for the opening which would have already been at 5pm, then she had to unload the car, then she said to show up an hour later, then she added that she would wait until a group had formed group of people. In short. We understood and let it go. Want to work...

The mill was actually closed but they opened it for us and gave us a demo of the grinding process plus allowed us to make a purchase after hours. The people in this village are so helpful to travelers.

We stayed a week in December 2017. Very pretty little town from the past. This little town has a lot of charm. It is quiet cool though during the time of year we went. A trip we will always remember. I can still hear the waterfalls at night. Nice to sleep by.

Nice village splitted in 2 parts by a deep gorge with the river Ciuffinna.
Due to this it is absolutely worth visiting

The antique mill in the centre of Loro Ciuffena is a relic of the past.
It is a centre point of the town and reminds us of what was important in times gone by.
A great shot of the falls from the bridge can be had here and we can remember a different time in these surroundings.

Buongiorno, vorrei fare un'escursione all'orrido di Ciufenna e volevo sapere se Loro Ciufenna è un punto di partenza valido e se il fiume è balneabile.
Grazie

Hello, I am thinking about planning a trip the last week of March 2017. How is the weather? Thinking we will stay at Ristorante La Ferriera for a week then travel around a little for another week. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks
