History |Galleries | Cafes | Boutique shops Central Otago's best kept secret - a free visitor attraction that has something for the whole family. When the Clyde dam was completed in 1990, Cromwell's main street disappeared under Lake Dunstan. Some of the historic buildings dating back to the gold rush of the 1860's were saved or lovingly rebuilt on higher ground, creating the Cromwell Heritage Precinct. Step back in time to the gold rush and explore heritage buildings, many with artisan businesses in them, located on the shore of beautiful Lake Dunstan. Open daily.

What a wonderful place to visit due to the hardworking Old Cromwell team who have preserved the history. On a calm sunny day it’s the perfect spot to admire the scenery and today there were lots out enjoying the lake in boats. The buildings house...More

Make sure you stop here while on your visit to Bannockburn wine road. It's 5 minutes away from Cromwell town centre and gives you a nice flavour of what the gold mining history is. Good coffee shop

We enjoyed wandering around the old buidlings and reading about some of the people who used to live there. There's a goo view across the lake and a nice cafe to get a cup of tea, so well worth a stop if you're passing.

You must visit this area on Market day--great small town ambience and fun stalls. It's a wonderful morning out on Sundays for market day.

A must do when visiting Cromwell. Such a great spot for a picnic or just meander round the lakeside. Well restored.

Arrived from the water on the jet skis; wandered around a bunch of galleries and if it wasn't a statutory holiday we could have grabbed lunch. No matter. A really great part of Cromwell. Have a weekend market in the summer, too.

Worth a walk around. Nice old buildings, there are shops and cafes in them now. The view over the lake is good too.

A great place to take a walk and look back. This place is run by volunteers and a trust but it leases out to some local artists and businesses. The coffee is great from the cafe down here and there is even a silversmith.
