It is a fascinating place to see and has a very nice Cafe and Gift shop. The problem is the prices are a little ridiculous for what you get. Need to knock about $10 off the entry fee anf then you would really have something. If you don't mind the high entrance fee then it is definitely worth seeing.

Peter our guide was excellent. We did miss the start of the tour which was a shame but we were finishing lunch next door at wild earth. We loved the fact that you could gold pan until your heart was content. While our party of 4 was not lucky a member of our group did strike gold so it is... More

This 25 hectare reserve was once know as Gee's Flat.It was consistently mined for over 100 years. Today it gives the nearest idea of how harsh and laborious conditions were in 1880.The Centre has realistically preserved prospecting and sluicing areas and dams and tunnels can still be viewed. The terrain is hilly and sometimes rocky to walk over. There are two... More

This unassuming site is well worth visiting, and indeed, if you're in Queenstown, it is well worth making a special drive to see and experience it. The staff on their guided tours give an excellent explanation of the gold mining era, and they demonstrate some lovely old machinery, and then at the end of the touring, you have a chance... More

Cross the bridge from the road over the Gorge, the Kawarau River below. See how they used to live in gold mining times...try gold panning or stop for a bite to eat. The old mining buildings are very intriguing with their falling down entrances and a few of these can even be seen from the road.

Just stopped here on the way through from Cromwell. Plenty of parking on the highway side of the river then you cross a bridge over the river (Kawarau Gorge) and from there you can see how they transported materials across the river before the bridge was built. They has a lovely cafe unfortunately not open as we arrived very early... More

Thank you young travellers from Sydney! We think your short visit here is a sign you need to return and spend a half day boating and enjoying a gold tour. Wild Earth Winery, who share our location, is a restaurant and cellar door serving fabulous food and wine. They are generally not open in the early morning. More

Good talk and tour. Lots of interesting information given by guide. Not an easy task with non English speakers, small children and 'talkers'. Tour included demo of working stamper battery and sluice gun which brought it all to life. You could pan for gold after a demo or walk more around the site. Not cheap but good visit.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. Sometimes, all that wonderful information is lost on a small minority of visitors? At $25 for an adult, and 2 hours on site, we think it is great value for the experience we offer. We are glad you enjoyed the tour. More

We stopped of here on our way back to Christchurch. We only had an hour to spend that lined up nicely with the guided talk. Geoff the guide knew his stuff and was entertaining. We saw original mining equipment in action and got to do our own gold panning. We could've spent longer (if we had time) doing the self-guided... More

Thank you for your review Narissa. What a shame you only had an hour. We recommend people allow a full two hours to really enjoy the experience. Glad you enjoyed the hour with Geoff though. He certainly knows his stuff. More
