A very good walk along a trail with interpretive boards in the old gold mining area. A fascinating, disturbed, landscape, even more surreal as it is now amidst wineries. Path easy and well marked, steep in places.

Instead of the usual greenery, you get to walk on the place where people used to goldmine. Amazing walk and you get to smell thyme along the way. Super sunny as there’s no shades along the way. I had just arrived alone and a polish...More

Interesting walk. We went during the middle of rabbit culling (by vineyard owners?) so the area did stink. Interesting caves. Interesting walking tracks and interesting history.

A really wonderful, but not too difficult walk. To think this was once a thriving and busy gold mining area is amazing!

Bannockburn is my 'home town'. In fact my parents still live there. So we have done this many times, and thoroughly enjoy it. In fact I think we see something different every time we go! A must do if you're in the area.

Travelling with a dog in NZ can be tricky but this place was dog and people heaven. Really interesting interpretation boards, great for the dog and the man-made scenery is mind boggling. Stories of gold rush and the number of people that came here made...More

Bit of a hike up to the Stewart town orchard with a run down cottage but well worth it. Caves on way up that chinese used to lie in. Take a torch. Fantastic views.

Really enjoyed this walk! So different scenery was not like nz! Like something out of an old western movie. The signs were very informative and made the walk interesting, as we could imagine how it used to look. A short walk (a littel over an...More
