About
We have moved! We can now be found at the Gibbston Tavern, 8 Coal Pit Road. Rockburn takes its name from the rugged, rock-strewn, burn-scarred landscape of Central Otago. The region is renowned for its stunning scenery of rugged mountains and picturesque lakes. Visit our cellar door in the heart of Gibbston to try our range of wines and learn more about our story.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This winery may not have the stunning location of many others here but don't let the industrial estate put you off.
Rockburn Pinots are consistently amongst the best in Otago and on our recent visit we were not disappointed. In fact we were elated.....there was a vertical tasting of the last eight vintages in full swing. Life does not get much better!

We visited Rockburn Wines as a result of tripadvisor reviews, and how right they were. Delicious wines and fabulous service and advice from Nic at the tasting, we spent far longer than we intended there on our way to Fjordland, but well worth it.

I've done wine tastings all over the world, and the one my wife and I did at Rockburn Winery was one of the most enjoyable ever. First, the wines are outstanding. Rockburn is a small, unpretentious place, but the wine is first rate. Of course, that's a matter of personal taste. What made the tasting so outstanding was that Ed, the young Brit who served us, made ALL their wines available -- 10 or 11 varietals. Each was excellent, as were his descriptions and explanations. And to top it off, it was free, unlike so many tastings in NZ which charge $5-$10 to sample 3-5 wines, often excluding their trop-of-the-line.

This would have been the worse experience we have had so far. We had a whole family and paid for wine tastings only to be told our 24 year old daughter couldn’t join and they would not refund us. Unless the lady hops off her high horse I would recommend a different place.

It's always a pleasure to call in and enjoy the friendly atmosphere that Nic creates. We have been visiting annually and our faces are never forgotten. This is a winery we will always visit and enjoy their wines.

As part of a "girls" wine Tour this summer we visited Rockburn. Not only did we feel very welcomed by Nic but the details she identified about the wines we were sampling provided us with the relevant knowledge to make informed decisions when purchasing.
Nic exceeded our expectations in providing other local tourist information, even though the majority of us were "locals". Great to be reminded of all the our region can offer.

We had a wonderful experience while at the winery in 2012. The welcoming atmosphere and the expertise of the genuine staff were evident the moment we walked in the door. The wines are excellent, and varied enough for many palates. We love so many of them. Had fabulous customer service from Nic when placing subsequent orders. Just ordered in January. She's just as amazing as the wine! A must stop for experiencing the wines of Central Otago.

We were on holiday in Central and decided to visit Rockburn Wines. OMG it was fantastic, both from how we were treated to the fantastic wines we tasted.
I highly, highly recommend visiting and tasting the wines. You won't be rushed, you will have a relaxing tasting session and then you can buy (and sign up for the emails).
We loved the wines so much and can't wait for Stolen Kiss to be released.
Thank you so so much for your help, your friendliness and ofcourse the wonderful wines.

We cycled up and enjoyed a delightful tasting of some nice wines - superbly presented by a very knowledgeable host(ess) who enlightened us with the story of the vineyards, and also much of the wine history of the region.

Great experience! Cute, laid back environment. We were lucky to have the outdoor area to ourselves when we arrived. Very welcoming and super knowledgeable service. We did a tasting and were able to go at our own pace. Would definitely recommend! Thank you!
