Our e-bike tour took us right past this so we had to stop, and were so please we did. We had no idea of Rutherford's connection with this area and the spiral memorial was very moving, and educational

This extremely well presented monument covered his personal life very very well and highlighted his working life and achievements in good detail.

As we were detoured via Brightwater, I had not researched this place. The signage gives no idea of what you were to see and it's charming. Not that it's obvious, but start at the top, not the bottom. There is a statue of a schoolboy then an atomic-orbit walk (I assume) leads you down past displays about his life. Trees, gardens and idea are lovely.

Informative memorial to New Zealand's greatest scientist - and we loved the statue of him as a little boy, off to school. Niggles are the rampant ivy that not only covers the concrete walls, but the signs on the walls too, the appalling typographical errors in 'Womans Vote' [sic] information board (has that really been allowed to stand since 1991?), and we couldn't spot the Canadian maple. Is it still there?

Lovely memorial for a great man in history. Lots of information with beautiful flowers. Will take about 15 minutes to read through everything and listen to the voice recordings. A must do if in the area.

Well worth a visit if you are in the area. A very simple but effective memorial. There is a wonderful statue of what was presumably ’Ern’ as a boy, surrounded by a concentric circles of low walls and paths. Along the way there are many information boards describing Rutherford’s life and works. There is parking for a couple of cars, but I suspect this monument does not get the number of visitors it deserves. A must-do for any Physicists (such as myself) visiting this part of NZ.

As a fan of physics I found this memorial informative and cool (in a nerdy way). Just a quick stop right on highway 6 in Brightwater. The information signs explain Rutherford’s life and his contribution to science. The monument itself is designed to represent Rutherford’s model of the atom. So cool. Recommend you take a moment out to stop and see this.

The Memorial is just outside Brightwater. It takes the form of a circular wall that has a series of interpretation boards that trace the history of Lord Rutherford's life from his early childhood through to his brilliant career as a world leading Physicist. The information was laid out in a logical sequence and I found it extremely informative.

There is easy parking right by the memorial and it is also handy to the Cycle trail.

For anyone wanting to find out about New Zealands Nobel Prize Winner this is the spot to go to.

We had driven past the Rutherford Memorial a few times and finally decided to stop. We were very pleased we did. We would recommend it to everyone for a pleasant break on the roadside - and an interesting and well presented summary of Rutherford's life. The history boards are well laid out with good information and pictures and with audible information, including Lord Rutherford speaking, to add further interest.

At Ernest Rutherford's birthplace, 50m off the highway, a well-laid out memorial provides a nice chronology of his life and career before and after winning the Nobel Prize. Lots of interesting snippets about students days, nicknames, family events. I pick up more items of interest each time I visit with friends.
