the Boatshed Kayaks, was set up by Richard Clark in 2000, on his property on the edge of Lake Karapiro. We offer a number of different kayaking and stand up paddle board options from our great waterfalls trip to our evening glow worm experience, just flick through our website to get a better idea for whats available. Lake Karapiro offers an exellent venue with sheltered waters and 15 km of lake to explore. making it a safe and beautiful environment to try something new. our guides and instructors are fully qualified in both flat water and graded river paddleing so if your wanting to explore some of the lower sections of the waikato river between cambridge and hamilton youll be in safe hands. The Boatshed kayaks is also involved in multisport training and hire and has been training grade 2 paddlers for over 8 years, with a huge number of paddlers experiencing their introduction to kayaking through The Boatshed. The ethos at the Boatshed has always been on getting people out there paddling, young and old, and therefore growing kayaking as a sport or recreational activity.

We purchased some vouchers for a twilight glow worm tour and it was pretty impulsive but we made a weekend out of it in the Waikato region! We met at The Boatshed, filled in the paperwork and then followed in convoy down to the lake front. From the start we had wonderful guides (Jacob, Darby and Shaun) who took you... More

We chose the glow worm trip which only runs in the evenings. We arrived early and enjoyed the picnic which we had pre packed. This was lucky as the on site cafe had closed for the day. After a simple sign in process, standard type waivers etc. we travelled in convoy in our own vehicles to the off site location... More

First time visiting New Zealand, what a fabulous outdoor activity in the evening, kayaking through the canyon with the most amazing view of clear sky and its full of beautiful stars. Most importantly, the spectacular blue/green-ish lightings from the glow worms just right above our head on our way floating back. We had the tour on... More

We thoroughly enjoyed the glow worm kayak trip guided by Sean and Darby. The kayaks were easy for the beginners and comfortable to sit on. Smaller group made it so much more enjoyable. Thank you guys!

Really loved our kayak through the canyon to view the glow worms. An easy kayak suitable for absolute beginners. Had full confidence in our capable guides. Enjoyed hearing a little history of the ares as we kayaked. Looking forward to our next trip, think it will be the kayak to the waterfalls.

What a wonderful evening we had. Kayaking through the canyon, wine and cheese followed by chocolate. Then the best part. Floating back through the canyon in the dark with only the glow worms to light our way. Looking up to see the overhang full of glow worms. Awesome!! We stayed at Muffins B and B where their hospitality was the... More

Last Thursday my husband and I went on the evening Glow worm Trip. We found it most enjoyable. It was safe and the guides were experienced and well trained and helpful. The glow worms did their thing on a clear, warm, still evening and we all floated down the inlet to the lake silently spellbound - the silence was only... More

This is the second time we've taken family members on this trip (that tells you how much we enjoyed it). As usual the equipment provided was good, instructions were clear, and the scenery was spectacular. Being locals we were a little disappointed that this time our guide had some of his local geography & facts wrong (not an issue last... More
