Just about an hour east of Munich, you'll find Prien am Chiemsee, the little town where you embark to visit Herrenchiemsee. The boat ride costs 7.10 euros and palace entrance is 8.00 euros. Carriage ride (saves the feet) was 3.00 each way. Best way to...More

We stopped here on our way to Salzburg and pleasantly enjoyed the visit. We did the tour of the castle which we found intriguing. We'd been to Versailles Palace so this comparison was interesting to us. The boat trip to the island was enjoyable on...More

Based on the Palace of Versailles but I preferred Herrenchiemsee. Beautiful fountains. Twenty minute journey across a lake. Fifteen minute walk from boat to castle but there are horse-drawn carriages to hire. Excellent guide who spoke loud enough for a large group to hear him.

I am sorry but I arrived by car and don’t know the answer. I do not recall seeing something obvious but, my suggestion , how about you call a local hotel and ask them?
