The staff is extremely competent and friendly! They speak Bulgarian and English, and some German too! We visit PODA every year whenever I am in Burgas, and every time there were different fascinating birds to observe.

NATURE CONSERVATION CENTER. Unique location overlooking the lake and countless species of birds flying. A very well thought out and informative place. There should be more places where you touch the flora and fauna. I recommend it!

We learned a lot about birds during our visit. The guide was really friendly and told which species live in the area and how birds migrate. We even spotted a couple of pelicans. A nice and relaxing way to spend couple of hours. Highly recommended.

This was our first visit and we were not disappointed either. As members of the RSPB in Britain we are always keen to support any body that is helping to preserve wildlife, whether it is birds, mammals or amphibians and reptiles. Rado, the guy in charge greeted us with a smile and was keen to show us the location of the Pelicans, way in the distance via the scope on top of the reserves building. Seeing Glossy Ibis, Purple Heron, Black-winged Stilt and Pygmy Cormorants were our first ever sightings and are now off our list! we couldn't contain our excitement! It was easy to miss the entrance to the reserve; a larger sign would be recommended there. The car park is a short walk to the reserve itself. The building has lots of information and has a few drinks and snacks for sale, besides nesting box cameras etc. We would recommend to take plenty to drink and food with you if you are going to have a long visit. There is a hide along the walkway, although it was extremely hot weather, it was bearable inside once the windows were opened. The rest of the walkway was full of flying insects like Dragonflies and Butterflies. We heard and saw our first Great Reed Warbler too along this walk. Unfortunately we were so hot, even after we had a little paddle on the shoreline of the lagoon (!), we had to cut our visit shorter than we would have liked. A big Thank You to the volunteers and all of their hard work. When we are in Bulgaria again we will definitely visit Poda.…
