Really recommend a visit to the lead mining museum and Temple Mine in Matlock Bath
Sep 2021 • Couples
We spent an hour visiting the fascinating mining museum, had a break for coffee nearby and then back to wait for our tour guide Chris to take us across the road to Temple Mine. Our tour was about an hour long, we wore hard hats in the mine which certainly protected us from bruised heads at times as we navigated the lower abandoned mine tunnels. Chris was an extremely knowledgeable guide and well prepared to answer any questions we had! The mine is a bit muddy under foot in places, is a constant 10c and has a few drips in places. Panning for iron pyrites (fool’s gold) added to the experience! Thank you Chris!

Fantastic tour and very interesting museum
Aug 2021 • Couples
The mining museum is full of interesting exhibits which you can often interact with, including climbing tunnels that let you experience what it was like moving around the mine. Our guide for the mine tour, Tony, was really knowledgeable and imparted that in an interesting and often amusing manner. Panning for minerals at the end added another interactive element to the tour, and you get to keep any minerals you find. I could have stayed for ages! Pictures show the lump of calcite in normal light and lit up with the torch light from a mobile phone. Well worth a visit for adults and children alike.

Fantastic afternoon

We visited last Sunday as our daughter has just started collecting Crystals and Gem stones, The temple mine was brilliant, Chris who takes you into the mine was lovely, he is very knowledgeable and fun, he lets you ask loads of questions, you spend plenty of time in the mine and not rushed around. At the end you get to pan for Gold which was a lovely surprise.
The museum shop is fantastic if you collect crystals and not over priced.

Our mine Tour Guide was Tony, a very knowledgable and friendly guide who made it even more interesting. Daughter (14) really enjoyed it, especially the crystals / stones in the shop! Couldn't get her away from the panning 😂 Definitely recommend

Interesting museum. Enjoyed the mine tour with Chris who was fascinating to listen to, he told us about old and newer mining practices in Derbyshire and the geology of the area.

Talking with the guide Chris. We were fortunate in that we were the only two on the tour of the mine which they held open for us. Chris knew a lot about the mining and was honest to say he didn't know if he didn't - which was not often. A really worthwhile interesting
and informative visit. Regretfully we ran out of time to visit the museum so cannot comment on that.

Friendly and Accomodating staff
Sep 2021
Took an autistic student with ADHD to the mine, we were the only people on the tour and our guide (Chris) was fantastic at allowing the student to move at his own pace and was very patient and calm with him to avoid confrontation but still holding boundaries.
My student also loved scrambling through the tunnels in the museum and all staff were very friendly. (He even choose to stay when he could have gone to the skate park!)

Great Tour brought mining to life!
Aug 2021 • Family
We took our 13 year old daughter for a trip to Matlock in the Summer holidays. We did the temple Mine tour as she has an interest in stones and rock collecting . Chris was our tour guide, we were in a small group with 1 other couple. Chris was very knowledgeable, gave time, and made this informative about the history if mining and the miners . It was really interesting. Chris left time for questions and it gave us a glimpse of life fir the incredible people who would of mined In this area so long ago .
Panning for Gold at the end was the finale and our daughter was thrilled to find her own fools gold that she could take home

This was well worth the small charge that is made for such a historical experience.

Thank you Chris for a great tour
