It was one of the greatest walks I have ever done lasting up to 7.5 hrs which wouldn’t have been possible without the constant motivation and positive attitude shown by tour guide Ryan. Made one to remember. Thanks to Sarah for offering a special deal. Will definitely recommend your company to friends and family.

We always expected the Tongariro Crossing to be the highlight of our New Zealand tour and we were not disappointed. We were so glad that we decided on a private tour with Adventure Outdoors. We had reserved 4 nights in Tongariro to maximise our chances of decent weather, planning to cross on the first day, with the others in reserve. Based on the weather forecast, Adventure Outdoors recommended delaying to the third day, which proved a great call. Although very windy and cloudy at first, the sun emerged just as we reached the top of the crater, giving us fantastic views. This wasn’t just co-incidence. Our guide, Jar, is enormously experienced on the Crossing and was watching the weather and adapting our progress to ensure just that outcome. Jar is a really interesting person. Seemingly effortlessly, he kept up an almost constant flow of commentary, interesting facts and stories. He is also patient and flexible. We took just less than 8 hours, with lots of stops for snacks, photos and even coffee along the way but Jar has clearly taken both much faster and much slower clients and seems happy either way. Lots of people were doing this crossing with inappropriate clothing – no hats, no waterproofs, etc. – but they are not joking when they say that you can experience all four seasons in one day, even in the summer. We had rain, cold, high winds and glorious sunshine on a February summer crossing. We were well prepared but it was comforting that Jar had brought extra hats and layers, just in case. The tour included private transfers to and from the crossing, taking away all pressure to complete the crossing in any particular time, which was also great. Really, an amazing day with an amazing guy!

Tongariro River Rafting was a ton of fun! The staff was very personable and taught us everything there is know how to paddle through the rapids. They made sure we were safe and knew how to follow commands. We booked through River Rats and did the level 3 which is intermediate. It was about 2.5 hours long. We will probably do a 4/5 level next time which is shorter. Someone recommended us do the level 4/5 in Queenstown. After we were done rafting, they fed us sandwiches which were great. They charged $30 for photos and $45 for the 360 GoPro video I think... we had our own GoPro which one of the workers placed on our helmet so we could film ourselves.

We came across the Adventure Outdoors company through TripAdvisor. Due to their incredible amount of excellent reviews without having any bad review it was an easy decision for us, to book a tour with them. Theoretically it was spring in New Zeleand, but there was some unexpected snow on top of the Red Crater and its surroundings. Everyone working for the Adventure Outdoors company was incredibly knowledgeable and polite. From the beginning to the end they were motivated and had the proper education to be able to get all people safe and sound across the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. If I go there again, I will definitely book some other activity with this company. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing itself was a great experience. Wonderful landscapes and a good walk (around 19km) to get from the start to the end. If you are reasonably fit, you can do this crossing without any problems.
