I don't think it is an exaggeration to say that this was one of the most amazing experiences (perhaps even the most amazing) in my life so far! It was definitely the highlight of my holiday in New Zealand. Having originally wanted to walk the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, but being too short on time to fit it in, we decided... More

We could not do the Tongariro crossing, so did this as another way to see the area. This is a great choice! Planes are well kept, and the pilots are knowledgeable. The flight was silky smooth, and took us around the volcanoes, lakes and vents. We had great views and many chances for photos. This is a great way to... More

This was the highlight of our trip to NZ. After a few postponements due to bad weather (they were very flexible), we managed to go up for the Volcanic Explorer tour of the three volcanoes. The ride was smooth, the view was stunning and the pilot's commentary was very interesting. Highly recommended!

When planning our visit to New Zealand, we decided to spend a few days getting acclimated by staying in Turangi. Had we not done that we would have not known about the flights available through Mountain Air. Understanding that the weather is very changeable, we were very impressed with Tony and Matthew and their concern for our safety. Most reassuring!!... More

Great experience.....calm, knowledgable, and very professional pilots who were very reassuring. Not to be missed for stunning views of the volcanos and surrounding sights. Well worth the money.....don't miss it!

We took the 9am flight to see all three vulcanos. The pilot made as aware of some clouds and we got the chance to cancel our reservation. We took the flight anyway because some clouds make the pictures more unique. The 35 min flight we purchased took 45 mins. The explanations of the pilot were very useful. All passengers have... More

We stopped at the Mountain Air Volcanic Flights office on impulse, without prior booking, on a fine February day. The gentleman at the counter was absolutely marvellous, and we were able to book onto a flight that afternoon. Although we had been part way up the side of Mt Ruapehu on the chairlift, there is nothing like flying over the... More

We booked the volcanic explorer tour from chateau airport for 245 NZD, which was supposed to take 35 minutes. It ended up being even 45 minutes and we enjoyed every single minute of it. In total we were three persons plus the pilot, but they also have a plane for six persons. Our pilot, Toni, was super friendly, funny and... More

Excellent way to kill an hour with views you just can't get any other way. The tour comes with a great history from the pilot who points out features you'd probably overlook on your own. Regardless of what side of the plane you're on you'll get great photo opportunities. Definitely worth doing

Had never been on a little plane before so I was rather nervous. But the pilot was smooth and rested, which gave me confidence too. We chose to take the third option flight which included tongariro, looking into Mount Ngauruhoe (Aka mt.Doom) and Mt.Ruapehu. We went on a beautiful sunny nz day and seriously the scenery, was breathtaking & the... More
