Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We enjoyed this easy trail very much. Leant about the history and the geography about the surrounding area from the signboards around the area. Stunning views at the top all around. Easy drive, easy walk and car parking by the road side. Highly recommended.

This is a very short walk, but provides stunning views of the surrounding area, especially Mt Ruapehu, Ngauruhoe and Tongariro. Great reward for very little effort! Look for the sign 5 kms south of Whakapapa Village. The walk starts at the roadside. There is not much parking, just a small space to pull off the road. The path is clear and it is an easy walk with some slight inclines up the mound. There are some informative display boards exploring the origins of the Mounds.

Parking at the side of the road. Very short easy walk for a really nice picture of the mountains. Kid friendly.

I was looking for a couple of short walks in the Tongariro park. This was nice because it’s right off the road. It was a peaceful view of the mountains.

Highly recommend this short walk. The view from the Mounds is absolutely breathtaking. All three mountains were out of the clouds and looked stunning!!

It's a comfortable walk to a lookout on top of one of the mounds that gives you a good view across the landscape, with all these mounds dotted around - the result of avalanche action. There's a small signpost and pull-off on the side of the Whakapapa Road. Worth a look, and it gives great views of the mountains.

This walk only takes 10 minutes and on a clear day gives you amazing views of mt Ruapehu and mt Ngauruhoe. The mounds themselves are debris from avalanches.

Very good view of the mountains and the almost 360 degree view of the countryside. An easy stroll of about ten minutes to reach the end of the track. Not easily visible or signposted , maybe just one signage. Abut 5km before the Whakappa vilage visitor centre.

Beautiful to see, great spot for sunset, but also good to see during the day with interesting vegetation. Just by the road, easily accessible and a short walk.

There is no parking for this trail, which should tell you something. A flat 5-10-minute walk to the top of a mound that provides a nice view of Mount Ruapehu, but nothing you can’t see elsewhere. Really not worth the effort.
