We loved the spellbound glowworm and cave tour. I can’t imagine anywhere else and you’ll see as many glow worms... there were thousands, so many that once your eyes adjusted they were lighting the inside of the cave. The tour actually takes you into two...More

If you’re looking for a quick view of the glowworms with a lot of other tourists this is not the trip for you! If you fully understand the geological details of the formation of this type of cave it might also get a little boring....More

Thanks for your review. There is a big tradition that there is just one glowworm cave in the Waitomo area and the tour takes 45 minutes, this is clearly not true! Guidebooks and online content makes it alot easier to be a discerning visitor. Thanks again

We went with a Spellbound tour after a recommendation from the helpful lady in the i-site and so glad we did. This company is amazing, our guide Zane was informative, interesting and truly enjoyed sharing this amazing resource with visitors from all over the world....More

Thanks for your review. We are a small family owned business who like to exceed visitors expectations. Often visitors find out about our Glowworm tour by word of mouth, or on line reviews. The I site and other local accommodation providers do a great job...More

I took ages to research these tours and the different companies but the non commercialised nature of Spellbound convinced me to choose them. I’m so glad I did. Zane was a fantastic guide, passionate about caving and flora and fauna of NZ. It was a...More

I am so glad I went for Spellbound to see the caves, it had the personal touch with our guide. The price includes a short bus ride to the caves with some talk about what you are seeing. Then to the first cave which was...More

Thanks for your review, we more often visit our Glowworm cave first, as the downhill approach to that cave is nice, But visiting the Glowworm caave second is also nice! Smart phone cameras generally get blue green dots. With a DSLR camera, some visitors get...More

Really enjoyed the tour. Beautiful glowworm display and the boat ride is definitely the highlight of the tour. Norm our guide has a wealth of knowledge in caves. This is such a boutique small group experience.

Thanks for your reply, On top of the highlight of the tour, the rest of the cave visited and the Karst landscape hopefully lets visitors appreciate why the glowworms live there and why there are so many.

We, a group of 4 ladies, asked if we could change from the 10am to the 9am tour and Peter was very obliging and said yes. He has amazing knowledge about the area and caves, not only in NZ but all around the world. It...More

Thanks for your review, we often run 9am tours when it is our busy season, but we dont always recognise a busy day in the shoulder season ahead of time . With cave tours its useful to put ours in perspective on a world stage,...More

Today, some more of my visitors have been raving about their Spellbound experience. I have overseas tourists stay and I always recommend Spellbound because of the variety within the tour and also the glow worms display is the best, in my opinion. The variety is...More

Thanks for your review, As mentioned in another response recently, the New Zealand Glowworms are the main reason for visiting. The infinite variety of what is seen , told by the different guides and even what the very dynamic weather we often have , makes every...More

We booked Spellbound tours after looking at the price and the tour duration. The tour covers multiple cave systems, with a raft ride in the main glow worm caves back-and-forth along the same small stream. The cave systems were different from the more touristy Waitomo...More
