Chris Templar came to our house and showed us his slides of the Lost World when I was 12 years old, 1975. I was wowed and in awe. It took me 46 years to go to the Lost World and at 58 years old I was wowed and in awe. It was everything I wanted it to be and more. Waitomo Adventures guides, Joel and Harrison, professional and great company. What a fantastic experience!

I was thrilled to have the opportunity to abseil down and then see the natural wonders of the Lost World caving system. It was a highlight of the Christmas season and accompanied by my mature daughters was a great family experience. I'd rate it as one of the most spectacular life events!!

Did the Lost World Adventure with my two kids 12 and 11. Guides were great, really engaging, looked after us all the way. Trip does require a reasonable level of fitness but was well worth it. Spectacular memories created for life.

We took our daughters aged 12 & 8 yr and they were absolutely terrified. They clung to me and cried all the way through. Now the 12 yr old is afraid of the dark and sleeps with her light on. Definitely not for younger children nor those with arachnophobia. I see how it is designed to be thrilling but it's not what I thought it would be from the advertising broschure that calls "Kids!" To come to the troll cave. I thought it would be fun but they will never forgive me!! Better suited to older teens. I wish we never went. Sorry Peter, but even when you saw how scared my daughter was you still hyped them up with the story and all the apprehension. There was not enough lighting to see where you were stepping even. Your advertising needs to be clearer to indicate what people should expect. The only plus was that they enjoyed touching the eels!! But they refuse to even look at the book. There wasn't any way to exit once inside so no matter how genuinely scared they were we couldn't give an escape code/word to stop it and exit. We had to keep going despite my asking Peter to call it quits and let us out at the elevator.

Dear Donna We're sorry that your family was so terrified. Whilst it's not unusual for kids or even parents to feel a bit apprehensive, your report is in a league of its own. This is actually the point of this activity. We believe that in our brave new politically correct world, a generation of children has been over-protected and this has now resulted in THEIR children being even more over-protected. Many kids are on the slippery slide to being afraid to turn off their phones...lost in cyberspace and afraid even of their own shadows. Kids are bubble-wrapped; insulated; and prohibited from many forms of adventure - which they in fact need for their proper development. "Hover parents" are doing irreparable harm to their children. Of course that does not gives us carte blanche to scare beautiful young children and we try very hard to adjust our delivery to get the balance right i.e. we want the kids to feel the challenge but with the help of their parents/carers to take it on & succeed in their mission anyway. This is a family based team-building opportunity for kids to safely expand their boundaries. We've taken thousands of kids of all ages and parents are consistently delighted with this refreshing and highly personalised tour. Sadly, I suppose for some people it's too late - we may never open their minds, but we sincerely hope to make a positive difference for at least some of the next generation. I have to take issue with your comment that there's no exit once you're in the Trollcave. Of course we want you to complete the activity but at any point you can terminate if you so desire. Whilst it has elements of an "Escape Room" experience, at the end of the day, it's a fully compliant building. We feel that you have let your own fears infect your children and that unless you stop doing that, the poor wee things may be doomed to a life of insecurity. It's patently obvious that the whole fantasy experience is "make believe" story telling - so what were you afraid off ?

We LOVED our lost world 4 hour option tour yesterday. Joel and Amy were absolutely fantastic and we also loved talking to Nick when we first arrived too. There were so many different elements to the trip and all were incredible. We especially enjoyed the fact there were moments to pause and soak in the surroundings rather than being rushed through like other tour providers we have tried in the area. We could tell that our guides had a genuine passion for the cave and answered all our questions fully. Knowing that this is a family owned company too adds to the specialness of the trip and we will absolutely be back with all our friends and family - see you soon!
