Well worth stopping if you have the time, especially if you’re not paying to go into the Waitomo Caves. Quite a few stairs to go up and down to get to the cave, plus stairs down into the cave. Take a torch if you have one.

It is amazing that attractions like this do not charge an entry fee. We were not able to go very far into the cave because we didn't have a torch.but from the entrance it was beautiful. I was able to get a photo of the stalegmites (the ones that hang from the roof) and glow worms

There are many stairs on this walk to the cave and if you have done any other caves in the area it is just a cave. If you have taken the drive from Waitomo to see the Makaropa Falls and Natural Arch bridge and you have time then maybe visit otherwise I would not bother.

On the Te Anga Rd. this cave is a short walk from the roadside car-park. The car-park is quite small. The walk in has some steps, but nothing too arduous, The cave is very interesting, if not spectacular. It would be worthwhile to take a good torch.

There are 3 attractions along the Te Anga road within about 6 miles of each other. There are the Marokopa Falls which is spectacular, the Natural Arch, which is very impressive and there is the Piri Piri cave which is dull by comparison. It is accessed via a 5 minute walk from the road, up and down a lot of steps. If you think the light from your phone will be good enough to illuminate the cave, think again. You need a good torch.
