This was my favourite walk in Wanaka. It took us (3 ladies in our 30s) about 4 hours, and one of us was carrying a 10kg toddler in a backpack. It had plenty of shelter from the elements during the forest/bush track, and magnificent views...More

I cannot say enough good things about this trek--it was my favorite. Be ready to stay approx 4 hours so you have time to enjoy the views at the summit. Check out water levels before passing Fjords. It all depends on rainfall and which type...More

It's a steep hike, but we visited on a perfectly sunny day and thus had amazing views of the glacier, waterfalls and cliffs from the upper viewing area. A big tourist group left shortly after we arrived to the upper lookout which was nice as...More

We were told it would take 45 minutes from town, expect to drive for a bit over an hour. Yes, 75% of the drive is over gravel road, and the final drive does take you through some water crossings and a narrow one lane stretch....More

About an hour drive from Wanaka, a mix of paved and gravel road through farmland. Mountain views, deer, sheep, cows, waterfalls made for a pleasurable trip. You will need a car high enough to get through some of the fords with water. The walk to...More

Moderate grade walking track, take lots of water and sunscreen as not much shade at the top. The view of the glaciers is stunning. We saw a couple of rumbling avalanches. No Keas this time though!

This is a beautiful hike. Flat in the beginning and then uphill the rest of the way. Definitely push on to the Upper Viewpoint. The Lower Viewpoint is ok, but the Upper, just 30 minutes further, is incredible. Takes you right to the base of...More

The hike up Rob Roy Glacier follows the Rob Roy stream which is fed by the glacier that we are aiming to see. When you emerge from the trees and take in views of the Rob Roy glacier from the upper view point. Breath taking...More

The walk is primarily a fairly steep ascent on a well worn track through stunning ancient Antarctic Myrtle Beech forests. The track winds its way upward following above a raging glacial river. The first lookout is still in the forest, the second, 30 minutes onward...More

The drive from Mt Cook to Wanaka takes about 3 hours, then you need to drive out to the Raspberry Flats car park which has 10km of dirt gravel road at the last section - total drive is about 30km from Wanaka. Some hire car... More
