As most people have mentioned, this is a great place to stop if you're travelling from Franz Josef to Queenstown or vice versa. The waterfall is more or less road-side so it only takes a couple of minutes to get to the bottom of the falls.

Short 5 min walk down a surfaced path through the rain forest. The falls weren't thundering when we visited but still very impressive.

There are a few places to pull over and experience nature, all not far from the road. Thunder creek falls is one of the first you come across leaving the west coast. Certainly worth a stop - put on the insect repellant though

We enjoyed the drive as there were spectacular views of Mt Aspiring along the way. We took some photos of the falls and kept pulling in for lake views on the way back.

The falls are very close to the road and are well worth a look, it is even amazing when it is wet, it also a great place to explore up and down the river

Was on the Intercity bus and they had a change of drivers at the road just outside the falls. So the driver said that we could stop for 10 minutes to take a snapshot of the falls while they changed drivers. Everyone hurried down through the small path, saw the waterfall, snapped a photo and hurried back again. Not particularly... More

We stopped by these falls when travelling the Haast Pass but were not impressed. They may possibly improve after prolonged rain.

We stopped here as we had read about the falls. It was well signposted with lots of parking. There were information boards at the start of the very short walk to the falls which gave you the background to the falls. There were also information boards as you walked to the falls describing the flora and fauna. At the falls... More
