We originally booked onto wildwire in July, but couldn’t climb due to injury (the team were amazingly understanding about this!) We were devastated, so booked on again in December to tackle the lord of the rungs (level 3) climb. We were super lucky with amazing weather, but the team were really communicative from the start about what would happen if rain came in, how we would be safe etc. The team were awesome, answering questions and making you feel safe. Practice boulders allowed you to get comfortable with the clipping and unclipping of the harnesses so you felt super confident on the climb. The first 2 levels were pretty straightforward for anyone with moderate fitness: fun things like hanging from bridges and sticking hands into the waterfall were good suggestions by the guide. There were only 2 of us with our guide so we got to go at our own pace. At the top of level 2 we had our lunch (the deli panini and brownie are amazing!), and then we were talked through exactly what would happen on the final bit of the climb. This was harder than before, with the first overhang the hardest, but my guide was on hand the whole time and I knew he would have helped me if I’d not been able to. Immensely proud that I hauled myself up by myself! When we reached the top we felt so proud and the helicopter down was the coolest way to end the day. I’d recommend this activity to anyone: for LOTR you’d need to be fairly fit and adventurous, but at no point did I feel unsafe and this has definitely been a highlight of our time in NZ. Thanks team wildwire!

My teenage son and I did the stage 3 Lord of the Rungs trip right to the top of the waterfall, with the chopper flight back, and on a beautiful clear sky hot day. Though this is about the most expensive day trip I’ve done in NZ, it was unique and I’d highly recommend it. It was more challenging than I expected and certainly scary if you are afraid of heights. Easy for experienced rock climbers like my son. I always felt safe, with top notch equipment provided and installed on the via ferrata. Also great guides. Highly recommend if you are adventurous and reasonably fit.

Forget Bungy jumping, skydiving, jet boating. If you are looking for the ultimate experience that will push your limits and reward you with memories that will will stay with you always?!!

Then the lord of rungs via faratta climb is the one for you.

WHY climb to level 2 and then have to walk down? Why not spend the little extra, push that bit harder and be rewarded with the view of all views, memories of the hardest parts of the climb and get a helicopter ride back down to the bottom.

Thanks again to the guides who assisted with the experience but a massive thank you to Craig who was my personal guide for making the experience that bit extra special.

Cheers Craig.

What a great challenge with great views!
I completed the three stages and took the helicopter off the top. Stage 1&2 is very doable for most able persons. But Stage 3 is another level up. It has a couple of short overhangs that requires some good arm strength.
Safety is their priority and at any given time you have two lines of secure anchoring.
A wonderful team of guides. We had a ratio of 5 to 1 on Sage 1&2 and then one guide for two climbers on Stage 3.
If you come to Wanaka, this is a must activity.

Maddie our guide was professional and very mature. The views were spectacular.
Very safe activity though quite challenging for a 5 foot person of 55 (albeit very fit)
The height and span reach was an issue although advertised as fine for kids over 9
I really enjoyed this and highly recommend
There are 3 levels
We did 2 levies in a beautiful autumn day in sunshine with another much younger couple
Value for money

We came here on the recommendation of a friend, and they weren’t wrong. 3 of us did all 3 levels and the helicopter from the top, which was really worth the extra cost. Lovely guide who was very safety conscious - it was challenging but doable so long as you don’t mind heights and are reasonably fit. An amazing experience with the sound of the waterfall at all times. Highly recommended!!

Two adults and two boys aged 13, one with Down Syndrome and non-verbal, as a group with guide Maddie. The boys were a bit weary when we arrived, however the practice climb and the phenomenal guidance made them feel comfortable and confident. The climb has been a memorable experience for all of us, the boys already made plans for level 2 and 3 next time, thanks very much!

One of my best experiences in New Zealand! Excellent communication before the trip, regarding pricing, weather, and options, very professional, organized, and super nice guides. If you’re a rock climber, definitely go for the longest climb: it’s easy technically but still fun, with awesome views and cool hanging bridges. The actual climbing time is under four hours, at a nice leisurely pace, and there’s a nice stop for lunch (with a welcome shade umbrella!). As a celiac, I’d ordered the gluten-free lunch, and they provided me with a delicious salad. You might want to bring an extra snack if you’re on the long climb. I was really glad I was wearing approach shoes with a stiff sole— definitely do not wear sneakers or soft, flexible shoes, You’re basically climbing up ladder rungs and your feet will get tired if you do!

This climb was to the top of the waterfall, before being helicoptored back down. I felt really safe -the guides were clearly experienced and made sure we got a good briefing and some practice using the safety harness and clips before we started. They were there to assist with a bit of guidance, or more if needed. I'd had a great time on Levels 1 & 2 about 18 months earlie. Level 3 definitely was a jump up in what I had to do - crossing a 2-wire bridge way way up and then hauling myself up and over an overhang. That was hard work but I never felt unsafe. Great work by the guides. And dealing with Wild Wire to make the booking was a pleasure.

Fully recommend if you are up for adventure, the thrill of climbing near a waterfall & feeling completely safe & secure under the expert guidance of Wild wire guides. Yasmine guided my group of varying abilities. I started out expecting to do level one but felt confident in Yasmine’s ability & assessment of my own to push thru & complete level two. Exhilarating & satisfying. Thank you so much for your encouragement.
