The Snow Farm is a hidden gem in the Wanaka/ Queenstown area. We took a one hour lesson with a great instructor to get us into classic cross country skiing and away we went. It’s so easy to learn. We also had a go at snow shoeing in the afternoon and went out to one of the huts. All in all a fantastic day in beautiful scenery.

Living locally we wanted to try cross country skiing at this excellent facility. We purchased a starters package with a lesson and hire skis. The instructor was really good and we were able to enjoy some trails in the afternoon despite the snow being a little icy. Great value and look forward to returning next year when there is no covid restrictions and plenty of snow.

We went snow shoeing for the first time..remember to ask for poles if they arent offered and get good directions before you start as the map is not easy to follow. We dis half a day and spent.a lot.of it lost..so I'd recommend packing a wee lunch and doing the whole day.

The Hut was fantastic. However, the information we received at the snow farm was misleading. We were wanting to use the DOC track to access the hut and were informed that it would be impossible due to deep snow and reckless with children. Information was withheld about where to access the track. We were told we 'must hire snow shoes' and use snow farm tracks. In hindsight this proved to be unnecessary. the snow was a best 15cm deep and the track was clear.

If the weather is crap and you think that a ski day is out of the question then think again. The friendly staff at Snowfarm were brilliant. The kids had a blast. Next time we are in the area we are super keen to explore deeper. Maybe even a hut!?

This week Monday 16th August, myself and 3 other teachers took 20 students to the snow farm, intending to stay for the week. We were greeted with friendly staff who quickly organised us into ski gear ready for an hour lesson before heading off to Meadow hut for the week. With the forecast of heavy snow they made sure we made it safely to the hut, transported our group gear, and had the fire lit and water ready for hot drinks. Their communication and support was excellent during our stay, particularly when the country went into lockdown level 4. I cannot thank them enough for supporting and assisting us in whatever we needed to make our experience at the Snow farm a fun and safe one. Special thanks to Kate the groomer, who made a special trip out to let us know about the Level 4 lockdown on Tuesday evening and assisted us with communication back in Dunedin, transported our gear when leaving and for just being there if we needed her via the radio.

Relaxed, friendly facility providing the only groomed cross-country ski trails in NZ. Good website with effective online booking, swift gear rentals, enjoyable lessons, good coffee cart. Much more relaxed atmosphere than downhill areas and great to be able to get out and XC ski.

Best and indeed only real cross country skiing place in the country. Amazingly dramatic surroundings and well groomed trails. Snowshoeing lots of fun when skiing doesn’t suit or you feel like a change. Reasonable prices compared to downhill. Lovely staff. Relaxed feel.

Snow Farm is well-priced and has an excellent range of tracks. We started our week of skiing with a visit here and it was useful to resettle into the gear needed to keep warm and get moving in the snow without the worry about sliding down a steep slope. They had boots and skis to fit all of us from an 8 yr old to a 53 yr old. Cross country skiing is pretty easy to pick up. The restaurant wasn't open but the food cart on site provided excellent rolls and sandwiches and hot chocolate.
