Booking a guide experience with Jake from Souther River Fly Fishing you can't go wrong.
Easy to book and all options available which is fantastic for the traveller.
The local experience that Jake has provides a guarantee that under all conditions he will get you to the best locations and locate the best fish.
Jake is an expert guide and quickly becomes a wonderful companion during your trip.
I experienced a 3 day trip with a great friend under difficult weather in early December 2019. Jake guided us to (probably) the only fishable river in most of the South Island, due to immense rainfall, and we had 3 perfect days.
If you are interested in a guided Fly Fishing trip in New Zealand then I could highly recommend booking with Jake at Souther Rivers Fly Fishing.

Thanks Cam it was absolutely great to finally meet you and to get both you and John out on the water. It was a very special trip for John as it was normally the trip he took with his father Billy (one of my absolute favourite people to guide and hangout with).

Although Jake was booked up on the only day I could go out fishing in the Wanaka area, he sent me out with an excellent guide named Paul, who was by far the best guide I’ve ever fished with (anywhere in the world). Paul was an expert at locating fish and devising a plan for catching each one. I hooked up with at least 9, and landed 3, which I was very happy with. The ones we didn’t land were some of the biggest fish I've ever hooked, but it just made me want to come back and try again! Paul was great for giving advice, but also entertaining my suggestions. The river Paul took me to was the exact size and type of river I enjoy fishing most, plus we were totally on our own all day. Paul also had a number of other "backup" locations in case our river didn't pan out, which I appreciated. He also had some great tips for other activities for my family and I to try out while in the area. I really could not have asked for a better day of fishing, and would definitely look to have Paul take me out again the next time I visit Wanaka.

Although I wasn't able to guide you personal I had total confidence in putting you out with my head guide Paul, and it sounds like you guys hit it off really well. I am so happy that you guys had a great day and both Paul and I look forward to you returning to fish with us again soon. We have so many great adventures we could take you on here and would love the chance one day to take you on a multi day experience throughout the South Island of NZ.

This was my first time fishing with a guide and from now on I will be looking to do it once a year. Jake was patient, easy going and provided very good chat. He guided all four of us on to PB brown trout. Jake planned our accommodation, fishing and food extremely well and timed the weather perfectly. In amongst the fishing he also guided us on to some deer one morning, having us back fishing in the afternoon. Trip of a lifetime and Jake has promised to step it up a level next time, looking forward to that

Fished with Jake in mid January and had a great day. He is a true professional working hard to make sure the angler's experience is a great one. He has an exceptional ability to spot fish and put you in the perfect position to present the fly. He takes you to the places where the fish are...and where the people are not. Jake, thanks for a great NZ fly fishing experience. I highly recommend his company for a great day on the water.

I was lucky enough to have Jake guide me and a couple of mates for a day fishing. We had an awesome day despite a lack of experience on our part. Jake was very patient with us and got us on to some world class fish, we landed some stunning fish and I'm sure a more experienced angler would have landed many more than we did. What an awesome way to see one of the best parts of the New Zealand outdoors and get to engage with it rather than just pass through.

I had a wonderful experience on the full-day guided fly fishing trip with Southern Rivers Fly Fishing when I caught not only my first fish on the fly but many more! Jake's patience, expert knowledge, and tips really helped me to improve my technique and success at fishing, and I will be able to use these as I practice in the future. I am particularly grateful for Jake's willingness to go the extra mile to provide what the client wanted from the trip - for me, this was to learn more about how to fly fish and to bring home a couple of trout. I would definitely recommend this to others!

We booked a beginners day with Southern Rivers Fly Fishing and it was such an exceptional experience. Jakes knowledge of the area, fishing expertise and genuine, friendly nature made for the most wonderful day out! Jakes communication and flexibility leading up to our day was greatly appreciated. What an amazing experience we had with Jake. Jake is one of the best guides in NZ. This is our second time with Jake as our guide, we hunted 3 days and fished 3 days. His knowledge , patience and keen eye are something to behold. Jake accommodates your fitness and skill level for an overall enjoyable experience. We consider Jake a friend now, and are returning next year to not only hunt and fish but spend time with Jake.

Jake Berry is a very competent and very patient guide. A friend and I just spent the most amazing day with him and caught some great fish in spectacular surroundings.
Jake’s patient coaching helped me get over some bad habits and improve a number of facets of my fly fishing. Jake is pleasant, informative and very good at his job.

Great guiding and really good man too. I'd go back tomorrow. The last day with a trainee guide (the beautiful Erika) just confirmed what a terrific experience it was. Tailored to my pace as a mature woman, patient instruction, mind-blowing scenery, great accommodation. Jake Berry is the bomb.
