Overview
Wanaka is a popular base from which to experience some of New Zealand’s most thrilling outdoor adventure, but the more extreme activities require pretty specific technical equipment. On this tour, climb, hike, jump, rappel, and swing through the spectacular Matukituki Valley—with all safety equipment included. Explore rugged terrain along the Niger Stream, and enjoy panoramic views over the frozen summit of Mt. Avalanche.

We were travelling through Wanaka for the first time and wanted to try something adventurous we hadn't done before. This trip is worth every penny. It seems pricey per person but for all the safety surety and unique experience it is worth it. We are middle aged kiwis who aren't in the best shape of our lives and often find many experiences we can push our way through so signed up for the intermediate canyoning due to some more interesting abseiling on offer. We learned it was definitely more physically challenging so were in agreement when Margeaux, our very talented guide, recommended we change to the beginner. We agreed and we were not disappointed at all. We found there were a number of difference ascent options for those both more (husband) or less (me) confident. Margueaux offered different options as we came to each part to ensure we were both enjoying the experience regardless of our confidence levels. We asked for photos to be taken (a small extra charge) and were surprised when we received over 50 as it hadn't seemed like she was taking that many. Safety was always primary but not to the point where any skills you bought to the experience were not acknowledged. A thorough health discussion was held which was helpful for Margeaux to understand any limitations so be honest here. All the provided gear was excellent. There is a steep uphill section to get to the entry point and ladies may want to wear leggings or shorts that will fit under your wetsuit for the walk rather than walking in your swimsuit. This is something the booking centre won't tell you. Also, if you wear contact lenses bring a backup pair with you just in case.

This was our favorite thing we did in Wanaka. Both of our guides were good and funny. I loved the jumps. This was our first canyoneering trip and we fell in love. We later went and did some in other part of NZ and would do this one again. We love adventurous adrenaline filled activities and this on delivered. Ziplining, abseiling, cliff jumping and rock water slides! We did Big Nige which is a full day trip with lunch included of sandwiches, cookies and chips. It is $350nzd pp and this includes pictures and videos of the trip. They do a really good job of getting photos and makes it less stressful, you can just enjoy without worrying about taking pics. Recommend.
