A marvellous off road experience with a knowledgeable and fun driver guide through private farmland, high into the hills. Great views, stories and in-sights into this magnificent place. Informative and fun. Highly recommended.

Lloyd’s expert driving easily negotiated the rough terrain so that we could appreciate the stunning beauty around ever turn. He was able to answer all of our questions about the area because of his years visiting and living here. Since my husband & I grew up on farms in the United States, we found visiting a New Zealand farm of this size fascinating. Lloyd’s personal experience with the deer industry in New Zealand enhanced our experience. I also appreciated the thoughtfulness of locating an outhouse at the halfway point of the trip and providing a wilderness tea break!

A fabulous thrilling off-road adventure through a high country farm. We were fortunate to have a beautiful cloudless sky even without a colorful sunset. Our guide was a most competent 4WD driver. The road was narrow, bumpy, twisty with sheer drops off in places. My heart was in my throat a few times but that made it all the more thrilling. We saw hundreds of sheep and red deer. The best 4WD tour we have been on in New Zealand. The others were boring by comparison. Highly recommend.

Sights from West Wanaka Station Highlands were all kinds of awesome.
Our guide, Jeremy has only been employed by Ridgline for a relatively short period of time, but evidently takes his job very seriously with the excelellent tour he gave us.
We would highly recommend this tour tp any visitors to the area.

Second time around the experience was as good as the first. Great way to see the fantastic views around Wanaka. The 4x4 element is an added bonus to give a feel how difficult the terrain is.
Brent was a perfect guide giving a knowledgeable and interesting outline of the sheep farm and geography of the area. The tour of the settlement d showed how tough life was at the outset.
The coffee and cake at the top certainly a cafe with a view.

Wow. Second time out with us, that's awesome. Brent is one of our new guides this season so it's great to hear that he's awesome too...but we secretly knew that!! You'll have to come try our Dingleburn Discovery next time ...... that is even more spectacular. Thanks again for taking the time to write, we really appreciate it. Regards Mark Orbell

We had a fantastic time with Lloyd. He knows so much about the farm station and area. We felt very safe with him driving us through this ‘up and down’ landscape. We had a nice tea with a stunning view over Lake Wanaka, saw lots of different animals (big & small), checked a stoat trap and we were lucky to see some shee shearing at the end of our tour. We had a great morning and highly recommend this tour!

This off road adventure really does need an experienced 4x4 driver in a tough vehicle. Steve did a fantastic job taking us up to the very top of the 1100m mountain via to private farm tracks climbing up some very steep inclines.
As an ex-farmer, Steve was able to give us a very full description of the way the stations work and how farmers are working to improve the ecology of the surroundings.
The view from the top of the mountain is stunning. The whole adventure is fantastic and highly recommended.

Nerve jangling climb! Love this description.....We use our 4WD vehicles purely as a means to get you to places you simply cannot get to on your own, and to experience pure solitude. So pleased you appreciated you Wild Hills Safari with Steve.

Brent picked us up at the I-site and with 3 others onboard we headed for the hills. So much to see! Brent was very knowledgeable and passionate about the area and what a special thing to be able to have access to a fifth generation family ranch. Sheep, beef cattle, red deer - a wonderful farm, 30,000 acres worth. Then we headed up a narrow dirt path on the ranch and to be honest, at times I was terrified! But Brent was a very capable driver and we never went over the edge. The views were spectacular and I liked learning about the different kinds of trees on the hill. Stopping to check a predator trap was something I’ve never done before. Having tea at the top, overlooking Lake Wanaka then heading for the ‘beach’ to see the 1865 settlement site of Henry Thompson was special. Thanks to all the team at Ridgeline for a wonderful morning experience.

We have Chinese translations in all our vehicles for our Wanaka Highlights Safari. We use hardcopy and also use Chinese recordings to play to our guests. I hope this helps.

We are interested in your service during Mid of April.
May I ask some quick questions?
1) How long does it take?
2) What is the route? Does it include Roys Peak Track?
3) I am traveling with my parents. They are old and cannot walk on steep hill. Not sure if this will suit them or not?
4) Will there be snow during mid of April? And, will your service be available?

I was a traveler, like you so you have to contact Ridgelne directly.
1. My tour was 3 hours but you can get other lengths.
2. We went to the West Station for a 3 HR tour of the ranch
3. No walking if you don't want.
4. I am from NY. April is fall season so I would not expect snow.
