We did the cruise and hike to the top of Mou Waho with Chris as the pilot and guide. Chris is very knowledgeable about the history of the region, glaciers, and birds. We saw a Buff Weka falcon
and other birds. He explained how the glaciers created the lakes and islands. And told interesting anecdotes. Chris also showed us a weta and a salamander. He and Lee (the owners) are committed to leaving the island better each time they go there and have planted 9,500 native trees on the island. Really great company and effort. They deserve the “eco” in their name. Tea and cookie overlooking the lake was nice.

Hi Sue, Many thanks for the review, it is great to hear that you enjoyed your tour. I will pass your compliments onto Chris. It has been great to see the island regenerate over the years with all the trees that we have planted assisting the process, Kind regards, Lee Eadie

Austin was an informative, humorous and friendly tour guide and captain of the boat cruise. He was patient answering questions and offered insights and interesting commentary on history, geography, plants and birds. I was glad I brought along my hiking stick as it was an uphill hike on the island but I never felt rushed or like it was too difficult. I loved his banter about the friendly flightless wekas on the island. I recommend this tour- it’s an adventure and the island and views are stunning.

We had booked the morning tour but it was rainy and windy so the tour was cancelled but they let us go in the afternoon when the weather had improved. Austin our guide was brilliant, very knowledgeable and respectful the environment. We saw falcons, buff weka, mountain stone weta and several other birds. The views were sensational and my wife planted a native lancewood tree as part of the conservation effort. Thoroughly recommend.

Fantastic hike! Beautiful walk with incredible views of the surrounding mountains and lakes. Our guides, Jacky and Austin were super, very friendly and knowledgeable, and they provided all sorts of interesting information on the geological history of the area, as well as facts about the flora and fauna we were seeing on the trail. They were very supportive, helping us safely negotiate the occasional trickier parts of the hike. Lunch at the summit was delicious, and they were very attentive to food allergy issues for my daughter. An amazing experience!

The islands we visited were fantastic and the surrounding areas. The views were just fantastic. Stand up paddles boards and walks were great. I personal found the water to be a tad to cold 16 to 17 degrees, so no swimming for me but other took on the challenge.

This hike was a little longer with a bit more elevation than we were expecting, but it was still a great day. Our guide, Lynn, probably could have scampered up and back in 4 hours withe her full backpack, but we needed to pace ourselves a little slower, so she gave us plenty of time. At the top of the track we enjoyed some stunning views of the glacier and the waterfalls coming off it while having a nice lunch that we carried up accompanied by hot tea and coffee that Lynn prepared for us there.

I joined the visit to Mou Waho Island. Thank you Chris for sharing your knowledge and passion about the island bird, insect and plant life. Trip included a dip in a glacial lake on the island. Well worth joining this trip even if you do not consider yourself a wildlife enthusiast!

Our guide Chris was hilarious and wonderful. This is a lovely way to spend a few hours, and you'll learn much about the area, the island, the lake, the Trouble with Stoats, and the birds. Do note that the walk is somewhat steep, and might be challenging for some, but Chris arms everyone with walking sticks. My favorite part was quiet and the birdsong. Peaceful.

Hi Sara, yes lovely to hear the birdsong on this predator free island. It is hopefully something we will hear more of as NZ strives towards it's predator free status. regards, Lee & Chris

With Captain/ tour guide, Chris, you will be educated about the lake, island visit, easy hike to a high glacial lake above Lake Wanake and even plant a small fern tree to replenish native species on the island. Sipping coffee/tea and cookies, while looking at spectacular views and hear about the geology, animal, bird life on this pristine island. Totally well worth the cost for this 3 1/2 hour adventure
