Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a fantastic time on our e-bike wine tour with Joe! He is so knowledgeable and we absolutely loved hearing about the Māori history and culture. Joe was really flexible with our booking which we appreciated so much. Would 100% recommend. Thanks Joe!

So much fun on the e-bike hey whānau/family. What a great way(carbon neutral) to learn more about Māori history of the region, sip a few local wines and embrace the beautiful Wānaka fresh air with WanaHaka. Mā te wā/Until next time Joe

Wanaka is a stunning town and nothing could be more fun than riding ebikes and drinking wine with Joe. Joe was a great guide -- kind, encouraging and knowledgeable. He shares about history and culture, but doesn't overwhelm you. My husband had never ridden and ebike, and I'm slow. Joe was patient. It was one of our nicest afternoons in New Zealand.

I recently planned a school snow tour from Queensland to Queenstown for 40 students and 4 staff and we were absolutely blessed to be given an introduction to Maori culture, language and Haka by Joe. I cannot speak highly enough of this incredible man. Joe took the time to guide my students through traditional welcomes, language, connection to land and stories as well as performing and breaking down several Hakas. If you are looking for an engaging, 100% authentic, 100% genuine, cultural experience for your students, Joe at WanaHaka is your guy.
Thanks Joe, we will see you in 2024!

We did the express wine tour with Joe.
Who provided a wonderful, warm and welcoming experience
Hes vast well of knowledge really provided a colorful and interesting insight into Maori culture.
The winery were delight, professional and fantastic.
The price was not only reasonable, but frankly a steal for such a fantastic experience.
If you are in the area, or even if not, this is a perfect way to start off your day.

Thank you again Joe.

I can only review the interactions with the owner, not the actual experience itself. The tour advertisement said it would not go ahead without at least two people. My husband isn't a wine fan, but he booked me for a tour expecting I'd be with at least one more or potentially a group of fellow wine enthusiasts. Unfortunately the day prior we were notified I was still the only guest. The owner offered to still take me on the tour, but I was uncomfortable going alone and didn't think it would be fun to be alone on a tour. My husband was booked in for skiing so couldn't join me, and requested a cancellation the evening prior when we were notified there was nobody else on the tour. The owner never responded. The following day, he refused to refund our tour fee. When my husband left a poor review about this interaction, he became very aggressive and verbally abusive over the entire encounter. It was shocking! I will post the entire email exchange here in photos. I understood his original frustration, and would have been willing to accept a partial refund or worked something out if he had just been kind or responsive, but his abusive language was over the top. My advice is to be cautious if you book here, make sure your plans are 100% certain and book in as a group to be sure you won't end up alone or out your money entirely.

This response is for all business owners who have to deal with guests that do not take ownership over their own decisions. As this point in time, on this platform there are 285 reviews, 282 Excellent, 1 Very Good and 2 terrible. The 2 terrible account for 0.70% of the total, those 2 were both guests that cancelled according to policies of platforms they booked on which were within 24 hours and meant a non refundable booking. These 2 guests were so irate they did not get their money back what you see above is what they have come to write. Again, not owning their own decisions. A platform like Trip Advisor which this guest did not book any of these experiences on still allows guests to write what they want. This shows that Trip Advisor has no indicator of authentic, true or any thing to monitor due diiligence and honesty in place. To place context into this, there was a cancellation policy(within 24 hours of experience) and Shawn did not adhere to it, and was not refunded, what you can see above in the review is essentially a tantrum for not being refunded. To clarify, this review was REMOVED from AirBnB experiences for the reasons 'there was no check-in from the guest'. For someone to actually not attend an experience, blame the operator for a cancellation policy that is AirBnB's cancellation policy and if you did check all the hundreds of other reviews there have been guests who have done it on their own(great experience and reviews as you can read if you want). I only hope you have a positive experience at The Banyans and find fulfilment in your life moving forward. So if moving forward anyone gets a guest by the name of Shawn Keller (or his partner) then beware, and make sure you refund in full, even if there is a cancellation policy as you may feel a similar wrath.

A wonderful cultural experience on the Wanaka lake front. A must for all travellers to New Zealand, to experience the customs and culture of the Maori people. Not only was Joe's presentation of the Haka moving, the fact that he broke each part down and translated his words into English, then explained why things were done, meant that our student group could gain a deeper understanding of the Maori culture. A trip to Wanaka would not be complete without experiencing a Maori welcome from Joe.

Being able to educate and empower through cultural connection is what I love to do. Especially with the school groups where it is more interactive. Glad everyone enjoyed it. Mā te wā/Until next time Joe
