We were waiting at a counter for quite a while, but no one was paying attention. When we asked the staff there, the stuff was very rude and answered us with a very bad attitude. Having many customers does not mean that they could treat any of them unfriendly. We were very disappointed that we spent money there but were made unhappy.

I can't get enough of that Aoraki Smoky Salmon Spread. I've never tasted anything like it before. On the container it says it's made from pohutukawa hot smoked salmon, cream cheese, lemon juice and chives. It's heaven on your tastebuds - 10/10 delicimo :-)

Dropped in to enjoy refreshments on stage one of the Alps to Ocean ride.
Salmon Sashimi was delicious.
Great range of other salmon products, and assortment of other food also available.
Outdoor benches just outside with lovely views overlooking Lake Pukaki.

Recommend to drop by along the way to Mt Cook.
Salmon sashimi is served Japanese style with wasabi and soy sauce.
Various hot and cold drinks as well as souvenir items also on sale.
Enjoyed the sashimi with the awesome view of the lake!

This place is situated at the Lake Pukaki Visitor Centre. It’s difficult to miss when you drive along the road as there will be very clear signs pointing you towards the visitor centre. There is a big large car park space to park your car. This place is also a very popular stopover for tour buses for toilet breaks.
From the visitor centre you can see the lake and the breath-taking views it has to offer. We initially went to the farm a few kilometres away but they didn’t sell any salmon there and were told to go to the shop at Lake Pukaki Visitor Centre.
The salmon here is freshly prepared and displayed in the display fridge at the counter. My other half and I are sashimi fans but were sceptical about the quality so we went for a decent NZD20 box of sashimi. With a little wasabi and soy sauce, the sashimi was soft in the mouth and went down the stomach very well. We went to the benches outside the shop to soak in the view while savouring our fish. Something I would certainly recommend to all sashimi lovers to try. A combination of quality fresh food, stunning scenery and good company is a recipe for a holiday.
The only downside for me is that there was no café for us to properly sit down if we didn’t want to get out in the open when the wind got too strong for comfort. 4 stars overall for this attraction.

Salmon we bought was not fresh at all. It was expensive at $36 for a salmon. The meat was falling apart and falling off the bone. It had a strange stench that was not fresh fish AT ALL. When cooked, the meat produced a white, creamy, milky discharge.

Hi Xi Xi W
We received your complaint about poor quality salmon by email and quickly rectified the situation by supplying a full refund, and sending a replacement salmon to Christchurch. Unfortunately with a natural product, sometimes we don't now how the fish is on the inside until it is cut open.
We hope you were satisfied with this outcome.
Many thanks
Emma

Despite the beautiful location of Lake Pukake before Mt Cook, this is the worst experience so far having a really unfriendly older lady selling the salmon and only having a choice of 10g or 30g of sashimi. The fish are not well cut. They were hard to eat and had too much in the mouth without a good tasty feeling. I mean, which farm does your fish come from? You also have a lmited stock of things. Have a choice between sashimi and sushi salmon. Honestly look how Japanese finely cut theirs and make it delicious.

We stopped by another salmon farm on our way to here and paid 40bucks for a large plate of sashimin but here we are shocked by the price. We also didnt see much salmon except those cut-up compared to the feeding my kids could do. The view outside was great but the toilet and smell spoiled it for us. We didnt managed to last 10mins.

Hi Gloria, Thanks for your feedback. We promote our shop as a wonderful place to enjoy a very premium Freshwater King Salmon, with a view across lake Pukaki to Mt Cook. Our farms are nearby, but yes not at the shop. Very sorry the toilets weren't as they should be, this is a public facility which we don't manage - but we'll be sure to request they get seen to.

Due to the crowd at High Country Salmon, we decided to come here to purchase fresh salmon for dinner while also enjoying the view here.
The view is great but the experience to purchase salmon is terrible and service at its worst.
The price per kg of salmon here is more expensive than High Country Salmon but is still does not totally put me off. However, the cabinet is such that only the top few package of salmon are displayed and some does not look as good. So, I politely asked if I could choose, the lady behind the counter said yes. So I asked if I could choose from the other side since there is no sliding door from the front. Reply was a curt "No". When I explained that I could not see properly from the front and thus unable to choose, this is replied sarcastically and arrogantly with "Well, I am sorry".
Not only was there no offer to help but to get such reply at negative tones. I was upset but did not communicate further. I walked out, drove back to High Country salmon to purchase at cheaper price and much much better service (with smile).
Avoid this place at all cost. Just enjoy the view.

Very sorry to hear about this; our team pride themselves on outstanding customer service but we do apologise that it was not up to scratch on this occasion.

We visited both this shop and the other salmon shop (High Country Salmon). Didn't buy the salmon here, bought it at the other shop. Just some comparison:
1. Shopkeeper here is unfriendly, shopkeeper at the other shop is friendly
2. Salmon sashimi here is $10 for 100g and $35 for 500g. Salmon fillet is $38 per kg. At the other shop, salmon sashimi is $10 for 120g, $20 for $250g, $30 for 400g. Salmon fillet is $32 per kg.
3. Salmon sashimi here looks fresher and more beautiful (but we didn't try it). Salmon sashimi at the other shop is not as fresh.
4. There is limited items for sale here, just salmon sashimi, salmon fillet, and salmon maki. There are many more food for sale at the other shop, in addition to salmon sashimi, salmon fillet, and salmon maki, there are also coffee, cookies, and other cooked food.
5. This is just a small shop (I didn't know about the farm across the road like other travellers mention). The other shop has its salmon farm attached to the cafe, and allow free salmon feeding.

Pretty much like any other salmon fillet. Start with the salmon fillet at room temperature (about 15 minutes out of the fridge). For fillet about half an inch thick, cook for about 4 minutes with the skin down until the lighter pink colour moves about 3/4 of the way up. Flip over and cook for another minute.
We also cook salmon fillet in the oven at 200C for 4 minutes per inch of thickness or wrapped in foil with rosemary from our garden for about 10 minutes.
