We are so sorry to hear about your experience; it's not feedback we often get as our team is known for their great customer service. Your feedback has been passed to the manager. If you could possibly let us know the date you visited, they will look into it. We do apologise and hope you come back so we can set things right!

Not a restaurant
Sep 2020 • Couples
This place was marked everywhere as a restaurant and a place to eat food, however the only food they sell ready to eat is corner store snacks... Other than that it's raw/frozen salmon by the kilo
Stopped for lunch and left disappointed

Hi Edward, sorry for the confusion. We advertise ourselves as a salmon shop, and are a popular spot to stop for a sashimi or smoked salmon picnic on the lake, but no- we're not a restaurant. Please let us know where you saw us marked as a restaurant and we'll get that updated.

A great fresh salmon cafe
Feb 2020
Check out the live salmon farm operations while enjoying a fantastic meal with great coffee, lots of out door seating and the food is freshly produced at a very reasonable price, well worth the stop

Much more than just a good stopover location
Mar 2020
Great location to just stop over and break your journey with a coffee etc, with a stunning view of Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook in the distance, BUT also offers so much more, not least of which is the excellent salmon to eat on site or take away.
The service was excellent and our sales assistant gave us a whole set of good advice - including strongly encouraging us to drive to the Mount Cook Village because the weather was so good and the sky so clear. In her words ..... "If you can see it, go to it!" We did and she was 100% right!

Salmon than High Country for sure
Dec 2019 • Couples
Better knife skills than High Country salmon, better grade soy sauce and wasabi (prepackaged but it’s the better grade ones) though they serve just salmon and that’s it. No hot food.

Great view of Lake Pukaki from the shop.

PS: Their coffee is absolutely horrid. Stick to salmon and you’re safe.

I read the reviews of both before coming and I understand why people said the salmon sashimi is better - pricing is typically 11 for a small box but the slice, cut, grade, cleanliness, all beats High Country.

It’s not a farm but more of a pit stop just to eat salmon. Staffs ain’t particularly friend either, in both shops.

Sashimi was great!
Nov 2019 • Couples
Sashimi was cheap and great. NZD$10 for
slightly over 10 pieces of sashimi. They tasted great with or without the soy sauce. definitely worth trying!!

Freshest and Creamiest Salmon
Nov 2019
They supply the freshest and creamiest salmon that you can find in NZ. Bought 3 packs to try and ended up buying another 8 packs for take away! Not to forget that this place has Lake Pukaki as a backdrop whilst enjoying your salmon.
