- jamieclowerSilverado, California75 contributionsNothing like it on earth! The views here are truly spectacular, and the genius way they have spaced out the cottages means you feel like you're the only ones for miles! This is truly one of the most unique places you will ever stay. The space is small but perfectly designed; cozy places to sit, a tiny kitchenette and lovely bathroom are all you really need besides a big soft bed. You can even enjoy a big outdoor tub under the stars! Be aware - when the sun comes up you will cook a bit; recommend after enjoying the stars from bed the night before that you pull the window shades to protect from the sun in the morning. The hosts kindly leave eye masks in the bathroom which I used the second night and slept much better! Bring some wine with you and enjoy the unique atmosphere at Skyscape. We stayed here during our time visiting Lake Tekapo and found ourselves not wanting to leave! It is about an hour drive to Tekapo.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 November 2023
- Moshé SBerlin, Germany126 contributionsSustainable Retreat! We had a fantastic time staying at this sustainable accommodation. The perfect location gave us a luxurious and private experience with quick access to the sky. The hosts were amicable and provided everything we needed, including a delicious breakfast to start our day. However, I should mention that we stayed in the middle of January, and during the day, the apartment became too hot, even with the air conditioning on. Despite this, we are excited to go back soon.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 January 2024
- vvenningOxford, United Kingdom13 contributionsA perfect stay in a wonderful location.A perfect stay in a wonderful location. We felt completely private and isolated and relished the gorgeous outlook. We loved having an outdoor bath at the end of the day. The indoor facilities were excellent too, a great shower and well equipped mini kitchen. We bought simple food from the supermarket in Twizel which could be cooked on the hob and ate at home both evenings of our stay. The view was too good to bother going elsewhere. The only thing lacking was a bowl to put salad in. But it was ok, we used the saucepan instead.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 February 2024
- Stephen MMelbourne, Australia10 contributionsMarvelously rich experience of nature - sky, lakes, land and mountains as far as the eyes can see.Stepped into a secluded simple world of rest and relaxation. Bevan, Bridget and Jason have set up and provide for a boutique nomadic experience...come and go as you want. Our adult kids stayed in another lodge and had the best time. Highlights - bathing outside in a hot tub watching the clouds rolling over the distant mountains; a couple of hours later lying on the ground with a throw rug and pillow watching the milky way spiral overhead; driving to nearby Lake Pukaki with its turquoise waters and seeing the fantastic lenticular cloud patterns.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 18 March 2024
- Fidelma69_12Auckland Central, New Zealand144 contributionsMagical, purely magical.Magical, just magical. Sleeping under the stars in a big warm cozy bed, watching the sunrise without leaving the same spot - heaven. We enjoyed 2 nights at SkyScape for my wife’s birthday. We relaxed and chilled and enjoyed the platters for our evenings so didn’t have to leave paradise. The outdoor bath was beautiful, just a perfect place to chill and enjoy all that nature has to offer.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 April 2024
- Kauri2507Auckland, New Zealand253 contributionswonderbartop rate place. I got to photograph my first milky way and was so excited. The hot tub was great. The place has everything- didn’t notice it was off grid. we stayed 2 nights and lived the view over the paddocks and tussock. Very warm. Wish I could have stayed awake all night. Next time we will set alarms! Stay, it’s unique, the stars are amazing, the platter lasted more than 2 nights as was so huge. Thank you.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 May 2024
- aspac99Auckland, New Zealand23 contributionsMagicalWe loved our night at Skyscape and only wish we had more time to spend there. The room was spacious and warm, and we felt like we were miles from anywhere. If we had neighbours they were a long way from us and we felt totally private. The rooms have extensive blinds (including for the roof) if you want to draw them. We were able to park our car right next door to the unit which was great. We took our Nespresso machine with us and that worked fine. I'd suggest a four wheel drive vehicle in winter as we awoke to fresh snow outside. Really magical. Our hosts were very helpful and easy to deal with.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 May 2024
- Markwilson120Lower Hutt, New Zealand17 contributionsNight with the starsGreat venue, very private. Enjoyed the outdoor bath both nights, which were clear. The champane, cheese, and nibbles worked well, and we added to it for the second night. Great waking up to the sunrise. room was easily kept warm even with a 7 deg frost one night.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 June 2024
- Lisa GSydney, Australia6 contributionsperfect escape under the starsFeeling disappointed as we drove up in unbelievable fog - changed to total excitement as we got above the fog line just minutes from our destination - the view was stunning, snow capped mountains above the fog. It kept changing every few minutes! our hosts had attended to every amenity and we wanted for nothing. Total peace and privacy. The out door tub is a must even in below zero temperatures, with a magical night sky (and the champagne stays chilled!) Highly recommended.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 July 2024

Truly unforgettable and highly recommended!
My husband and I stayed at Skyscape in April 2021 and it was an amazing experience. The creators/owners of Skyscape, Bridget and Bevan, are lovely people, very friendly and welcoming. They've crafted an eco-friendly yet luxurious space in the wilderness that is beautiful inside and out. We loved the comfortable bed and little kitchenette with yummy continental breakfast supplies. The shower was divine and top marks for the lovely robes and slippers.
Our absolute favourite part of our stay was soaking in the gorgeous outdoor tub watching the stars. We literally saw the Milky Way reflected in the pure spring water!
We woke up to blue skies and birds above us, and golden high country views stretching out for miles. It was so relaxing, we didn't want to leave!
Thank you again for a wonderful stay and keep up the amazing work!

Wow! What an experience and place to stay! We thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay here. Every little detail was thought of by the hosts to ensure that we had a very comfortable and luxurious stay. The design of the cabin enabled us to enjoy the stunning scenery at every angle and view point ... and as for the outdoor bath!!! Luxury indeed :-) We got to experience the amazing night sky and stars while lying in bed which was such indulgence! We will highly recommend to our family and friends to stay at SkyScape and hope to return ourselves.

This is an amazing place! While not huge, the unit is very adequate and unique, and best of all, off the grid, using predominantly solar power, and gas. No cost has been spared to make SkyScape a quality place to stay. Total privacy and peacefulness, with an impressive view over the Mackenzie Basin, and the night sky, if you are fortunate enough to get a clear sky. Spotlessly clean with tasteful furnishings. A lot of thought, hard work and money has gone into creating Skyscape. An experience we will never forget.

Our stay at Skyscape was wonderful. Thanks to the location and design of the cabin, we were able to immerse in tranquility and feel at home at the same time. We were lucky to have clear skies and enjoyed the spectacular view of the stars from the bed. The sunset from the bathtub was also a memorable moment. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen facilities were more than adequate. We were blown away by the attention to detail and how well the property blends in with nature. We were particularly impressed by the fact that everything was solar powered, eco centric without compromising on comfort or quality of experience.
Thank you, Bevan and Bridget for a wonderful stay. We will be back :)

Bridget and Bevan have created a really special space which connects you to both the landscape and the night sky. Even if the cloudy night prevents the visual display of the heavens, the experience of being with one with the sky is a spiritual one. The setting, the accommodation touches and the hospitality provided make this a unique experience; one worth repeating!

A truly amazing experience. Peaceful and very restful in a striking environment. We were lucky enough to have two starlit nights and to wake up in the middle of the night to a canopy of stars made for an unforgettable experience.
The unit is well equipped and beautifully presented. We thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the outdoor bath and would recommend taking advantage of the delicious and generous platter option for an evening meal.
The perfect place to celebrate a special wedding anniversary. Thank you to Bridget and Bevan for making their dream a reality for us all to enjoy.

A very special part of the world with luxury accommodation.
Guaranteed privacy.
Weather was amazing while we were there.
Had the platter as the dinner option and it was HUGE.
Delicious fresh breakfast the next morning.
Contactless checkin and checkout (Covid)
Has everything you could wish for.
The outdoor bath makes it even more special - watch the sun go down and the star come out. Truly magical.

Skyscape 3 was remote enough to feel you were away from everything, whilst giving easy access to the surrounding district. Our "nest" was luxuriant, and blended into the landscape. What a landscape! Wide open skies, mountains which sweep around the Mackenzie Basin, and changing weather conditions our early October visit brought. Lenticular cloud (with a little weather warning) followed by a glorious sunset. That night a dump of snow which turned the landscape white affording a chance to fill the outdoor bath for a morning wallow, as the last of the snow was falling! Magic!
Truly, variety in our experience. As we reflected on the bill, both of us concluded that you could fly to Aus for the same money. But, this experience would trump said overseas trip!

We will be staying at Skyscape on Sept. 8th. I understand that the accommodation does not have a telescope. I know that the skies will be spectacular in any case. But my husband is an amateur astronomer and wants to get up close and personal with objects in the sky. We have binoculars, but could not carry a telescope from the USA. Does anyone know if there is a way that we can rent or borrow a telescope for the night?

We will be staying at Skyscape on Sept 8-9. I understand that the is no telescope and that the stars are fully visible from the little glass house and I know they will be spectacular. But my husband is an amateur astronomer and would like to get up close and personal with the objects in the sky. It would be impossible to schlep a scope from the USA. Is it even remotely possible that there is a way to rent or borrow a telescope in the area? We have great binoculars, but that won’t quite do the trick.
