A LOOP ENCIRCLING TOWN OF TWIZEL.
Feb 2020
Twizel Walkway, the Twizel River and the man made hill is surrounded in the Mackenzie Basin. It is a short circular walk.

Great place to practice your cycling
Feb 2020
We arrived to collect hire bikes in preparation for our A2O journey and found this a great path to get acclimatised to the both the bikes and especially the electric versions for those of us using them.

Riverside cottage- 234 Glen Lyon Rd- Pathetic!
Dec 2019 • Friends
Spare the horror and avoid this accommodation on book Twizel.
Smelly, dirty & unkempt - it’s such a mood spoiler ...
furniture soo rundown that u don’t even feel like sitting on the sofa, dead mosquitoes in refrigerator, expired stuff in pantry.... and cockroaches running around... the pics speak for themselves

WORST accommodation ever!

A 'must do' in Twizel.

This walk along the river is a little gem and even managed a glimpse of Mount Cook whilst walking it - would definitely use it again.

Great easy walk
Jan 2019 • Family
This is a lovely walk that goes along the river then up through the trees, safe for the dogs and great tracks for the kids. Is slowly becoming more built up with houses which is a pity but still a nice place for a morning walk.

River walkway next to the town
Apr 2018 • Couples
Only took the short section next to the town centre, it was quite good track, with landscape of mountain with snow on its tip. Nice walk, chill morning, bright blue sky, sunrise on the horizon, what a lovely combination. Entry from town centre at Glen Lyon Road. From Glen Lyon Road there is river access, you can walk left or right along the walkway. Enjoy.

Great for biking
Jan 2018 • Family
We enjoyed cycling around Twizel with our kids. I needed a map to make sure we were on the right track but this was probably because we were unfamiliar with the area. You can pick up a town map from the visitors centre in the centre of Twizel. There is quite a bit of loose gravel in places on the track which made it a bit more challenging for the kids. Would be nice to all this track also.

Cycle around the town
Jan 2018 • Family
We made a spur of the moment decision to pull the bikes off the back of the wagon and try and get around the town circuit of the Twizel Walkway. Bearing in mind I had our 3 year old on the rear toddlers seat and our 6 yearold son was on his bike.

The walkway is an awesome part of a town that I have never really given much thought of....until now.

The track or most of it is manageable for all levels of experience. It meanders around the town and you will get to see the Twizel river, parts of the town, golf course, pine plantations and the sprawling paddocks to the West of the town.

You'll encounter other like-minded people including those on bikes, runners, horse riders and those off for a stroll with the dogs.

The river offers a great opportunity for a dip during the warmer months or even throw the line in and try and catch a trout.

There is one large hill that needs caution when going down or up, especially when people are coming down on bikes as there isn't much room to let them through. With the rear seat on my bike, it was ok but I had to be very careful in not losing my own footing - great view too.

Awesome hour or so today and made us think about Twizel as a place to possibly settle in the future.

Fly fishing river
Dec 2017 • Solo
A walk along the river to go fishing.
If fly fishing is on your itinerary stop and have a look in the local river. I would like to write about the fish but that may bring too many people so I will not.

Poor signposting and knocked down trees
Sep 2017 • Family
The eastern and northern parts of the track were pleasant to walk along, however once you cross Glen Lyon Rd onto the North West Arch, I recommend staying on the road, at the moment as a section of the trees has been demolished and the track becomes unclear and treacherous
