We booked this tour because it was highly recommended to us by a tour agent. The price was reasonable, especially since transportations to and from our resort (2.5 hours away), meals (breakfast and lunch), and drinks were all included.
Once you arrive at the Schooner, you are greeted by lovely staff and other guests. The guests ranged in all ages and included families, couples, and even solo travellers. We quickly met with the Captain who goes by "Magic" Mike. He was welcoming, funny, and overall a great person. He gave me and my partner the "captains service" where he personally served us drinks, showed us around the ship, and even told us stories of his life and boat (very interesting).
You end up going to an island called 'Snorkel Island', where you guessed it, you snorkel there. The equipment was limited but because of our "captains service", we were able to go on the first trip and Magic Mike personally showed us the great snorkel and diving spots.
After snorkelling, you are treated to a wonderful island buffet, which was a great break from the typical city and resort food. They also had a traditional Cava ceremony where we all got to taste their traditional Fijian ceremony drink (contains alcohol).
Throughout the trip you not only get the experience of being in a beautiful boat with picturesque views, but you also meet new people from all over the world.
As we sailed back, the sun slowly began to set and we had a front-row seat (I recommend going to the front of the ship then to the 2nd floor) to one of the most beautiful sunsets you will ever see.

The weather was overcast and warm.
With rain predicted in the afternoon (which did arrive) .
The trip out to Schooner Island was approx 1.5 hrs, 10 am sailing arrived 11.40 on island, as we were travelling at
6 knots. )The sea was calm and on board we enjoyed champagne, tea, coffee, scones, beer, wine and juice . Some of the crew sang and played guitar for part of it.
Sailed past other day islands also .
There were plastic deck chairs out on deck and a couple of wooden benches also. Men and a lady toilet on board.
To get in and out of main cabin and the upper and lower decks there is a bit of a step. But crew always happy to help!!
As we arrived , we then transferred to a smaller boat to take us to the island .
Men’s and women’s toilet on island also.
Big hut with bench seats and tables to get out of sun or rain, and this is where they served lunch.
Option of snorkeling or glass bottom boat during morning and afternoon. Kayaks, volleyball available, but we ran out of time .
The snorkeling was great as we saw lots of fish , but due to hurricane a while back the Coral got damaged. However you could see some colours , blue, green, cream
I opted to use a noodle ( I am a swimmer) also which as great to keep you a float and check the local residents out . It was an awesome time snorkeling .
On the other side of island we fed the smal reef sharks, then snorkeling for a we bit before wind and rain got up.
Water was warm and calm before the rain came.
BBQ lunch as great- chicken, fish , beef, rice dish, potato salad, coleslaw, fresh bread rolls, beer, wine, soft drink, bottles water.
Time on the island was approx 3 hrs as we left island at 2.45 pm .
Afternoon tea onboard and once again a great time with the crew singing and playing guitar .
We paid FJD199 per adult as we booked within 48 hours of sailing. This price is subject to availability.
It was a great day and happily go again, but would love the sun to be out next time .

We booked our STUNNING trip out for my husbands birthday - this was wonderful memorable day out. Crew made the day. We had perfect weather and boarded this gorgeous schooner for our adventure to a tropical Fijian island. The trip out was so much fun, the crew made my husband the chief for the day, gave him the honor of carva, and made him and others born in the month a birthday cake singing them all Happy Birthday. We gently sailed out to a secluded island not too far out for a fantastic day of baby shark feeding, guided snorkeling and glass bottom boat for those not so adventurous. Well organized romantic way to travel, the crew sang to us on the way home finishing with the beautiful Fijian farewell song (worth the trip just for this) would highly recommend. Special thank you to the sweet crew, and Seth - first week on the job, super lovely.

Would recommend anyone travelling to Fiji to book the day trip with Whale's Tale on their 100ft Schooner. They start off with breakfast lots of Island fruit and scones. All drinks are inclusive from the get go so I was drinking momisas/free water and the partner was drinking Fiji gold beer. Free WiFi on board is a plus. We went sightseeing and got to see the other 3 islands the white sand makes them look as though they are floating on the water. You stop only at Schooner island which is abosoluty fine as this takes up magority of the time. They also offer power snorkeling and massages at extra cost. They start with Kava and then you will be snorkeling, having lunch along with staff playing guitar, drink some more, fed the sharks, glass bottom boat ride, volley ball. They fed the fish while snorkeling so you really were swimming amongst the swarm of fish, so many different types/colors we saw parrot fish and marlin. Lunch was amazing they have some very good chefs on who did a fantastic job and we had amazing fresh caught Marlin fish, chicken, beef, sausages, salads rice, potato, pasta. There are toilets on the island. We sailed back on the Schooner and had afternoon tea hot drinks, cake, donuts and scones with plum jelly. All the staff seem to really genuinely love their job and enjoy chatting with the guests to make it a special day for all. Abosoluty 100% would do it again, if you haven't done it yet book it what are you waiting for. 😊

It was a day for the memories.
My wife was worried about getting sea sick; the schooner ride was very smooth in three foot waves in the afternoon. Her apprehensive quickly disappeared and truly enjoyed the 90-minute sail. The island is amazing.
The best part of the day was the crew, they are fantastic. They are so accommodating and safety was first.
Lunch was definitely better than 95% of the restaurants we have been to (anywhere).
Without question 10/10. Coming into the marina, the day was sadly over but the memories will be long lasting.

What a day! Firstly, the crew of the Whale’s tale give the best hospitality I’ve ever experienced on a tour, we were not short of a drink, a laugh or food the entire day. The host was hilarious, the entertainment was great and the beaches and reefs on the island were stunning. Thank you to all of your team for making a cake and singing to my husband and I for our honeymoon, it topped off what was already an awesome experience.

Captain and staff were so accommodating, they went out of their way to serve everyone on the yacht. Schooner island was beautiful, lunch was lovely, glass boat viewing of the coral and the little fish was amazing. Feeding the fish was a wonderful feeling.
Swimming around island was refreshing, a little hard walking around as their was so much coral on the beach and water edge but was fine once we got into the ocean.
Highly recommend tour

I did a fair bit of research on day trips and was glad I picked Whale's Tales.
Overall this is perfect for someone looking for a relaxing day out with some time to relax on Schooner Island and enjoy sailing on a nice boat.
The boat is relatively large but the best seats go quick. Our cruise was pretty much at capacity but was still comfortable.
It was quite hot on the day and shaded spots are limited so bring lots of sunscreen and cover. With unlimited drinks, it was easy to just sit back with a drink in hand and enjoy the view.
The cruise from Denarau takes about 90 minutes to Schooner Island which is a fantastic set up. Its a great spot for swimming, snorkelling, volleyball etc and a fantastic lunch is provided as part of it. They have a great large covered area plus scattered benches, good toilets on the island. The glass bottom boat ride is simple yet great to do - once they find a spot, jump into the ocean and feed the fish while they swim around you. The coral is OK but has been damaged a bit from cyclones in years past.
Crew were great and provided a good atmosphere on the boat with guitar and songs and were super helpful. Just remember to bring some Fijian dollars with you to tip at the end of the cruise.
Overall, a highly recommended day out with lots of fantastic photo opportunities and one I would easily do again. Probably one of the best day cruises I have ever been on.

Yes, the shores have lots of marine life swimming around you while being close to the shore. Recommended.

Hi there. Is there a safe place to store personal belongings while we go out and do the activities?
Written 31 March 2019
Good question... we never take valuables with us except for camera / phone.... we carried them with us in a small backpack and left it on the beach in site ... prob safer to leave anything your worries about in the hotel safe. The people seemed really trustworthy and as their livelihood depended on the tourists I doubt there would be much theft.

Hi Graeme, great review on the schooners whale trip, but please clarify what you mean by "pay extra for the power snorkel" whats this as I thought snorkelling was including in the price. we are looking to visit a fiji island for first time that has amazing swimming, snorkelling, fish sightseeing in crystal clear waters
Thanks
Barb
Written 22 March 2019
Bula Barb, This pay extra is for the Power snorkeling, this is a scooter that takes you for snorkeling it is a machine with a Go Pro attached to it and you can take video or many picture you like and you get to take the memory card back home with you, otherwise normal snorkeling is included in the price.
Thanks
Siliva.

What time did people arrive back in Denarau? I have a flight at 7.30pm so worried I might miss my flight.
Written 23 August 2018
We arrive back in Denarau by 5:00 pm and you should be at the airport 2 hours before the flight depart , I think its best to do something else to avoid disappointment.

wanting to know how much the power snorkeling is Tanaka
Written 6 May 2018
I was there 1 week ago power snorkelling was $110 that also included use of an underwater camera and I got to keep the memory card for no extra charge also the diver victor is a guy with over 3000 dives under his belt and real gentleman he’ll take you on a guided tour of the reef for about 1hr well worth the money
Written 7 May 2018
Hi what is the chance of seeing whales and dolphins?
Written 4 March 2018
You will see tons of fish and maybe a stingray or sea turtle while snorkeling. You may not see any whales at all. It is possible to see some dolphins while headed to/from the islands, but that just depends. Starfish are abundant.

Hi yes, we paid through the Bedarra Beach Inn, they take part of the money then you pay the rest to the Schooner when you arrive and yes it is in FJD.. Hope that helps.
