This small but wonderful museum is upstairs form the gift shop. Make you explore this and not just shop for souvenirs. Nice summary of local history dating from the American Indians to 20th century

A small, but well organized town museum, even though there was no mention of my family which was in Newport as early as about 1650. Small enough to not be overwhelming, you can easily go through it in 30 to 60 minutes or stay longer...More

This museum is a good place to orient oneself for a visit to Newport! We only needed less than hour to see this place. However, it was of interest to us regarding the background of Newport!

The museum of Newport history is small but quite adequate and pretty thorough in its historical review. It's a free little treasure amidst many tourist and clothing shops. Maintaining and appreciating a place's past is important and their donation request is very modest.

Second floor. Small. Free but donations are recommended. I was in and out in 20 minutes or so. Disappointing. It gives a small mention to the original people who lived here but it was really about the history of anglo-euro settlers.
