About
By appointment only! We strongly recommend booking at least 30 days in advance! Seriously!! San Antonio Western Shooting provides a safe, supervised fun Western Shooting Experience using real guns and real bullets. We provide instruction in the safe handling shooting of all guns. No experience necessary! You will have the opportunity to shoot reproductions of guns such as the Colt 1873 Peacemaker pistol in a western setting. When you get used to those guns we will have you shoot the double barreled shotgun. Shooters will shoot about 75 rounds and it will take about 3 hours, the cost is $130 per person. All of our shooting sessions are by appointment only! Sorry, no "fast draw" or "twirling" of guns is permitted. Absolutely no alcoholic beverages are permitted onsite. Guests may bring observers at no extra cost. See our website and Facebook page for more information. Unruly children will be sold to the Comanche.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Imagine you are watching an old western where good guys and bad guys are shooting it out from cover. Sorta like "Open Range" or even older, a John Wayne oater. That's kinda what this place is like, and you are in it :) Very different, innovative, and fun

Cowboy Lee was so gracious to work with us as we traveled from NC to fun and entertaining event. We had done this after years ago and it must a must redo when we cam back to Texas. So informative about the old west and cowboy life and customs. They took their time with us to explain safety and how to shoot to have the most fun. If it were possible, we would do this every time we visited texas. The huge number of 5star reviews let you know it's the best.

We had the best time here, everyone gets into character with a hat and holster, your hosts are all dressed in western attire as well. Plenty of time shooting real western revolvers and rifles while also learning a little bit about the time period in which they were used. Some friendly competition with unique targets and very safe at the same time. What a blast, I would highly recommend this activity to anyone, you do not have to be a gun enthusiast or have any experience to enjoy this experience.

This is a very well run and very good fun experience.
First of all safety - this is a live firing range and the emphasis is on safety through out. The rules are clear and the reasons for them well explained as is the operation of the weapons.
The style of range shooting is different. This is not just pumping bullets into a paper target. The guys have set up a range of scenarios to make the experience fun and educational about the old west.
The whole 3 hours flys past too quickly because is it fun and well operated.

Very enjoyable and felt safe having had the proper guidance and safety essentials explained. We thought this would be something unique and very different to anything we would find back home in the UK, and we weren't disappointed. Got quite a few mossie bites so get protected if you are a sufferer!! Tip: from the main road the entrance sign is marked as "A Place to Shoot".

We have shot guns in ranges in the US before, this looked totally different and it was and worth every $. You spend your time in a mockup western town and shoot old west style guns. The guys are absolutely brilliant, you feel totally safe whilst having some fun. I cannot recommend a visit here enough, you will have one of the best times no matter what age, male or female.
If we ever get back to San Antonio we will certainly be visiting again.

Our family had a blast, literally and figuratively. My wife was a bit apprehensive about shooting guns, but the guys did a great job of teaching her and making her feel comfortable. Worth every penny.

Makes you feel like a real cowboy/cowgirl from times past. Have you shoot the significant guns from western history/movies: Colt, Winchester and the short double barrel shotgun. Very nice, friendly, relaxed and enthusiastic staff!

In the 2.5 to 3 hours how many rounds do you approximately shoot? Also how many guns do you get to use?
Lee Z
San Antonio, Texas, United States32 contributions
You would shoot about 70 to 75 rounds including shotgun and black powder ammunition. With our experience you would be shooting the 1873 Colt revolver, 1873 Winchester rifle, 1894 Marlin rifle, maybe our 1866 Winchester Yellow Boy. The hammered double barreled 12 gauge shotgun is also used. The black powder pistol is in .45 caliber, the rest are using .38's loaded to approximate the power of weapons used after war of northern aggression (aka civil war).
