This is a must see when in the area. The walk up is stunning so be sure to have loads of space on the memory card before you set off. Views of the glacier are somewhat distant on arrival at the top but well worth...More

Flying to Franz Josef and learning about how it was formed, maintained and the environmental impact from climate change was very interesting.

I give it a 4 instead of 5 because its not as large as I was expecting so I was a bit underwhelmed. I suppose this is as a result of global warming. :( At any rate, the hike is easy and nice and the...More

It’s quite a steady climb to the look at point for the Glacier but well worth it especially if you couldn’t go by helicopter. Our helicopter trip was cancelled due to low cloud by the glacier was quite clear at the look out.

Long walk to the glacier. If you are not a little fit don't attempt. Global warming is happening if you ever doubted it. It was about 88% humidity but only 16 degrees.

An easy walk to see the glacier and well worth it. The glacier had melted a lot since the last time we visited so get in quick. Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes.

If you come here the only way to see this incredible sight is by helicopter. There are many companies that offer these services

Loved our visit to the glacier, it's a good walk with plenty to take in along the way such as the waterfalls and looking for gold in the stream. Must have been some sight before the rapid erosion took it so far up the valley...More

We had visited Fox Glacier the day before and although Franz Josef is a longer walk it is better to see. I also think the walk is easier. Franz Josef Glacier has the blue ice that I had imagined a glacier to have. You are...More

It depends on what you mean by “explore”. We drove our rental car to the car park and hiked on the well marked pathways over the moraines to the observation point overlooking the face of the Glacier. It was sufficient for... More
