I ostensibly wanted to take a plane or helicopter ride to the Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers but the weather grounded all flights.... instead, I got into the FJG park and walked a trail and climbed up to the glaciers terminal area. It was blocked off but I got as close as I could.... stunning... but it was rainy and... More

We chose to park and walk to the glacier (free!). I would defiantly recommend getting there early in the morning, it's less crowded and easy to park. Depending on how the clouds are you could get a great view or barley see it. It looks like they change the walking path and glacier view point every once and a while... More

Even though we had a budget, we couldn't miss getting on a helicopter flight to check the beautiful Franz Josef Glacier. It was amazing! It was the clear blue sky, the ice and us up there. An incredible experience! Highly recommended! Unfortunately we didn't have time to do the hiking, but that will be when we're there next!

The preceding day was gloomy; we thought - perhaps walk the glaciers Saturday, 'do' Lake Matheson and hope by Sunday it would be better. Woke to a stunning day Saturday and moved like lightning - were on a flight and touched down on Franz Josef by 10.15am - wow! Unbelievable. Highly recommend - so worth the dosh.

You have go to be really lucky to have the weather in your favour and we were :) Well worth the the money! The guides were professional, yet lot of fun to hike with Amazing experience on the ice and heli ride. HeliHike is definitely recommended for anyone with moderate fitness Don't miss this!! Book it in advance.

It's a shame the glacier has receded so much. It's worth the walk to see it but the viewpoint is where the glacier was in 2008! I didn't do any helicopter tours as I've already had many glacier experiences elsewhere in the world. It's not worth the trip here unless you are happy to see a glacier in the distance... More

Stunning! Go earlier in the day as we went quite late (when our tour arrived) It's gets dark between 5-5:30pm and we felt rushed to get in and out

The wonders of mother nature. It is must to take a walk to see the glacier. It is spectacular and might not be there anymore in the next 10 years to come. The glacier is getting less and less. Highly recommended place to visit. One should not missed it if possible.

A natural wonder, this was a highlight. Unfortunately the Glacier is retreating, a sentiment we heard over and again from travellers who had been there in the last 10 years. Access to the Glacier is dependent on the conditions and we were lucky enough to walk within 350 metres. To get up close, a helicopter is the best option but... More
