Great movie, saved us hundreds of $s
Feb 2020
We thought this was a great movie. It could have done with a bit more narration but was otherwise excellent. So good in fact that we decided not to do the helicopter ride we were planning. Great result that saved us about $700.

what to do in Franz Josef when the weather is bad
Feb 2020
Franz Josef is an outdoor activity place , but when the weather means a no fly zone is in place, what can you do. We went to the cinema to watch a 45min film of the sights and views around the area on a clear day. the cinema is located on the main drag , its a small but clean place , and the film runs on the hour every hour during the day.

We went to see a movie on a rainy day. But unfortunatly the cinema is permanently closed. The costs where to high for the owners with the low visiting numbers.

Franz Josef Cinema
Dec 2016 • Couples
My wife and I stopped at the Alpine Cinema while visiting Franz Josef. The cinema is quite nice. It's clean with comfortable seating and a great projection system.

Unfortunately, the movie we caught wasn't anything special. It had a lot of great video of NZ but not much in the way of a story. Probably just poor timing on our part.

Still, a nice cinema worth visiting if you find yourself with some spare time in Franz Josef.

Top class cinema

Most people are surprised when I tell them that Franz Josef has a state of the art cinema. I prefer going here to see a movie than anywhere with the large picture perfect screen, amazing surround sound and comfy seats. What a great asset for a small town!

Lived up to the reviews

Like most other reviews, we went in with low expectations but were blown away. The cinema is well kept and is really big! Try to get there early so you can get a comfy seat right up the back

It's Dry Inside!
Jan 2017 • Couples
We discovered this little gem after our morning glacier hike, just as the rainy mist took over the afternoon. We took in an afternoon (plays on the half-hour) viewing of "Flying South" which is an aerial capture of this gorgeous country. For $15 we were able to see what we might have seen for a $$$ helicopter ride. Big screen, great sound, fabulous photography.

Surprised by the quality of seating, size of screen and sound quality
Jan 2017 • Family
Walking into a small town theatre I had dialled down my expectations, a lot. How wrong was I?! There is lounge chair seating in the front and rear of the tiered seating. The screen was large for the size of the room and the sound was great. We attended the showing of "Flying South", a film screened daily that shows off aerial photography of the South Island of New Zealand. I love that sort of thing so was delighted that we went there after our glacier walk.

Located in the Alpine Adventure center. The only building on the right side of the road heading South
Jan 2017 • Business
Flying South is currently screening from 12:00pm till 5:30pm daily. On the hour and half hour.
A 25 minute film takes you on a journey around the South Island of New Zealand. Filmed in High frame rate you will see stunning smooth visuals that include the Fox Glacier by air.
Great film and a must see whilst in Franz
