Interesting walk across small streams as we ascend the area towards the view point. Scenic view of mountains carved by Glaciers as we walked through the valleys. At the view point, Fox Glaciers is not as grand as Franz Josef Glacier. If you have the...More

The walk to and from the lookout is good and there is some pretty spectacular scenery on the way. The Glacier itself is not particularly impressive from the lookout as all you see is the small (from a distance) front face and is probably better...More

Nice place to go for a walk if you are in the area (This is the main attraction in the area). It's a really short walk and you do not need special shoes or gear.

We visited the Fox Glacier in February 2018. At the tie, we were able drive a short way in and then take a 10 minute walk through a pretty rainforest to see the glacier from afar. The original river walk was closed due to washout...More

Glaciers are amazing to see and even more so when you can get as close to Fox Glacier. Easy walk with a reward of the best view of this glacier. Highly recommended for families to do.

This should be a clear example of the damage we are doing to our planet. The scale of what could be there is more striking than the glacier itself. To be 'inside' what the glacier once was was really thought provoking. The walk is harder...More

The steep inclines were challenging unless you're moderately fit. Had to stop many times to catch my breath. But definitely still worth it - after all, most of us will only get to do this once in our lifetime. Wear waterproof shoes if possible as...More

More impressive than Franz Joseph and you can get closer. It’s just a lovely way to spend a few hours!

Even though there's much talk about the glacier receding and also the current construction going on, it's still a great opportunity especially for those who may have never seen a glacier. The walk from the parking area to the viewing area was more difficult than...More

The Fox Glacier is tragically receding at an incredible pace. Between my last visit in 2006 and today I can’t believe how far it has melted. A pleasant 1 hour round trip walk from the parking. Mildly elevated and some streams to be crossed on...More

I guess you could potentially drive from Christchurch to Fox Glacier in one day, depending on the time of your glacier heli-hike, but as the other respondents have said, I definitely wouldn't recommend it. It's easily a... More

Hi, the Franz Josef Glacier walk is longer at 1.5hours (compared to 1 hour for Fox), but I think probably easier. Just take your time and it should be ok. If you want to bail early, you can see the glacier from about half... More
