Took the turn off down some dirt road, parked up and walked some more and arrived to see something that required binoculars to see. Over hyped and not worth the effort if you ask me. Thanks DOC.

The walk to the Glacier passes granite cliffs along the way. It takes only about a half hour each way. The trail is easy and smooth, although dirt and not paved. Great view of the Glacier.

You could get a bit closer to the glacier than at Franz Josef and it wasn't as long a walk, so easier with kids. It was spectacular scenery and well worth the effort.

I'm glad we did this glacier first as had we already been to see Franz Josef, we would have been very disappointed. While still a great attraction to visit it wasnt as spectacular and the last part of the hike was a steep climb.

Really nice moment to be there, it was a really nice view around the glazier, not only to see a glazier.

Definitely worth the stop. Not as impressive or as accessible as Franz Josef but worth seeing anyway.

With global warming New Zealand Glaciers may be gone in a few years. I would highly recommend you take the time to visit these awesome forces of nature that shape our planet. Beautiful, powerful and awe inspiring on our back door.

We were booked to do a heli hike, but unfortunately it was cancelled due to weather. Recommend that you do stay an extra day just incase this happens, as the very next day we were flying out. With that being said, we managed to see as much as we could and it was breathtaking. Make sure you bring warm clothes... More

On other visits..years ago..with a guide you could actually walk on the glacier..Now you have to fly on to it. However, there is a great walk to a good view of the glacier. The walk is moderate but had a steep incline at the end. Great views all around. Do it...its free

Getting to the nearest viewing point of this glacier requires a one hour return hike from the car park. The trail is through a relatively level but rocky river/glacier bed for most of the way. The exception is the last two to four hundred meters where it involves a walk up a steep incline of small rocks and sand. The... More
