Good trail to the glacier a couple of kilometre or so. Towards the end it can be a bit steep but paths are good. Wardens are constantly repairing the paths to maintain them to a good standard. It appears that most day Mother Nature wins.

Informative, slow paced and easy for all ages. Coats and boots provided if needed. Bus to start of hike and takes around 2 hours, mainly due to stopping and tour guides giving lots of history and information about the glacier. This is really what you pay for which I was happy to do as didn't do a lot of research... More

Did this instead of the guided tours. True, you do not get to go to the so-called restricted areas but still you will get a good hike to a vantage point from the Fox Glacier carpark. It is slightly physically demanding but still worth the hike! And you save 50 bucks!

If you are in the area, Fox Glacier should also be visited. The walk up to the viewing point is perhaps a 5-10 min walk. Part of the path was closed for rmaintenance while I was there but one could still view the Glacier from a distance. There is also the option of taking a helo up over the Glacier.... More

The track can currently only be walked for the first 10mins. A guide may be able to take you further but public access limited due to track maintenance. Doc sign dated 6 Dec said closed for at least 5 days. Can still get a view from the bit you can walk but view is better from viewpoint up the road

The walk to the base is short and relatively easy. Unfortunately with the receding glaciers there is not much to see is some areas, but it is still worth it to make the hike and imagine what once was.

Yes, definitely do this walk. But definitely have rain-ready gear, and I don't mean an umbrella (something that I saw quite a few people carrying).

We did a long walk all the way from the Fox Glacier township along the Te Weheka walkway/cycleway to the car park and then onto the Fox Glacier valley walk. The glacier was definitely worth seeing and doing the walk from the car park to the glacier but don't bother with the longer walk to the township. The trail to... More

Went as part of a tour group and the bus stopped by the fox glacier access. It was a nice valley but the tail end of the glacier has melted almost entirely. Walking to the square yellow area on the flat ground or hiking to the top of a short slope didn't yield much different of a view of the... More

You can set off and do the full hike that take you up to 800 meters sfrom the glacier or part of it and still get to see a fair bit. It's a fair hike 1.5 hours return at least, but the surface is ok, however we chose to just do the part part which was fine and we got... More
