We walked from the start all the way to the end of the trail just below the end of the glacier. Excellent walking trail. Not too challenging. Beautiful waterfalls and views of the glacier valley. About a 6 mile walk both directions.

You can get information abot the trails in a brochure, you can pick up from the iSite. There is a good selection of trails, some are easy and some very demanding. We walked some of the not so demanding trail. They were easy to find and follow. While walking you can admire both the rainforests and mountain sceneries.

The hike to the farthest viewing spot takes about an hour there and back and ends with a steep climb. The views along the way and from the end of the trail are impressive and it is hard to imagine the glacier in its most extended form several thousands of years ago. Worth a stop if you are around and... More

There had been a bit of rain the day before we arrived in Fox Glacier. We did an early morning walk to the terminal face as the weather was overcast in town. However the weather was clear and sunny with rainbows in the valley when we arrived. It is a much shorter walk than Franz Joseph with a very steep... More

Lovely walk easy for all and the views make it worth it, I think sometimes you can get closer depends on safety but it's free and nice.

Good trail to the glacier a couple of kilometre or so. Towards the end it can be a bit steep but paths are good. Wardens are constantly repairing the paths to maintain them to a good standard. It appears that most day Mother Nature wins.

Informative, slow paced and easy for all ages. Coats and boots provided if needed. Bus to start of hike and takes around 2 hours, mainly due to stopping and tour guides giving lots of history and information about the glacier. This is really what you pay for which I was happy to do as didn't do a lot of research... More

Did this instead of the guided tours. True, you do not get to go to the so-called restricted areas but still you will get a good hike to a vantage point from the Fox Glacier carpark. It is slightly physically demanding but still worth the hike! And you save 50 bucks!

If you are in the area, Fox Glacier should also be visited. The walk up to the viewing point is perhaps a 5-10 min walk. Part of the path was closed for rmaintenance while I was there but one could still view the Glacier from a distance. There is also the option of taking a helo up over the Glacier.... More

The track can currently only be walked for the first 10mins. A guide may be able to take you further but public access limited due to track maintenance. Doc sign dated 6 Dec said closed for at least 5 days. Can still get a view from the bit you can walk but view is better from viewpoint up the road
