We did some of the lower trails on a poor weather day, including the cycle track from the village, but the main glacier valley track is still closed following the November downpours. The local iSite is in Franz Josef, so good to stop there for...More

Due to rain and weather induced road closures, the north entrance to Fox Glacier was completely closed. The southern entrance allowed us to drive in to the parking area and take a very brief walk, but the last part of the trail with the view...More

We had done the Franz Josef walk the day before, and decided to do Fox before we left the area. It was advertised as an 'easy' walk taking no longer than 40 minutes one-way in the information at our hotel. First off, I liked that...More

The brochures lied.....it may well have been a quicker walk in distance than Franz Josef but the walk was difficult. The hills were steeper and longer and a lot more of them.

It takes you longer to get to the viewing platform than commented in the guides (1,5 hrs not 40 min). The trail is not interesting (only some views of the valley), has a lot of ups and downs and the final result is not worthed:...More

If you are young and in good physical health with a couple hours to kill, just go for it, at least you could say you made it, but be warned that the view isn't as spectacular as the glacier has retreated so much so that...More

Although it is stated to be a quicker walk to Fox vs Franz and you do get slightly closer, the walk is definitely not easier. There are several quiet steep parts on the current iteration of the trail to the view point. Keep up to...More

Perhaps other reviewers have also compared these two very beautiful national parks, since they are not very far from each other and they are similar in some ways, not only because they feature glaciers. Some of the tourist companies offer guided tours, although my wife...More

Good walk today - did not get wet at the river crossings. Found a multi coloured beanie at the viewing area around 1pm. Have brought it done and left it on a high traffic cone at the start of the walk next to the carpark.
