Mountain Helicopters is a locally owned family company that has been operating in the Glacier region since 1998. We had a great experience with Mountain Helicopters. It was a spur of the moment decision and we're so glad we did it. The people at Mountain Helicopters were lovely, very friendly and helpful and we felt safe flying with them. We flew over both Fox and Franz Joseph glacier and Mount Cook and the scenery was truly amazing. Even though the weather on the ground didn't look that great, when we got up there the sun was shining and the sky was a brilliant blue. The pilot (sorry, didn't catch your name) was great, he made sure we both got a good look at the sights and was very informative. We totally recommend going with this company for a once in a lifetime experience.

Mountain Helicopters as a family run business that truly cares for its clients. From the initial booking onwards, nothing was too much trouble and flexibility was the key. Poor weather on the first afternoon we had booked meant flights were very limited. However, whilst we couldn't land (in the clouds), the Mountain team and our pilot Michael ensured that we had a tremendous view of both the Fox and Franz Josef glaciers. that first afternoon. However, they then kindly offered to re-schedule the Mt. Cook and Mt. Tasman flight with a nearby landing for the following morning for the same initial price as the original flight which we were lucky enough to experience. Michael was also an excellent volunteer photographer to help us celebrate the experience. My first flight with my wife up the Fox Glacier in 1999 ( landing on the glacier), was so memorable that I took my mother back a decade later. Whilst the glacier had receded a bit over 100 metres in that time, there was no drop off in the quality of the experience, hence why I shared the experience with my son this time. Sadly the glaciers are receding even faster, so fly with Mountain Helicopters whilst you still can.

We did the Tasman Glacier / Mt Cook flight and I couldn't put in to words how spectacular the scenery was and how it was worth every single cent. The service was brilliant from the moment I enquired at the reception desk to the moment we landed after our flight. Felt incredibly safe and enjoyed every second. Couldn't recommend these guys highly enough. Thank you so much for an experience that we will never forget. Such a privilege to fly over this amazingly beautiful country and stand on the Glacier.

This was the absolute highlight of our 4 weeks in New Zealand. What a totally brilliant find. We arrived in Franz Josef after a really long journey. We knew we wanted a heli’ flight, but with so many companies advertising just weren’t sure which to pick. In the local gas station, we asked the server on the till and she pointed at a woman on the forecourt outside…they are the only ones to use…she said, they are local people and they are brilliant. So I approached the woman she had pointed out and within minutes we were in the office, on the corner opposite the gas station, really easy parking…there were people just coming back from a flight who were raving about how good it had been. We were reassured about the length of time needed, booked a 30 minute flight with a landing on the mountains. It was just my husband and me and the pilot Michael who has been flying here for donkeys years… I was nervous, but everyone (well the three members of the family, James, Trace and Michael) were so so reassuring. It was a magnificent trip, we flew up over the river, over the glaciers, saw the tops of the mountains and landed on a mountain top opposite the summit of Mount Cook. Michael could not have been more more informative, he took photos for us, gave a commentary all the way and we felt very very looked after. We landed 40 minutes after take off. A magnificent, memorable and unforgettable experience.

Mountain Helicopters were fantastic! Called the day before we intended on coming through to check infant prices as most other companies charge 50% of an adult race for infants. Was told that infants under 15kg didn’t incur a charge as they can go on a lap-great family friendly company. Had several great informative calls and planned to turn up and see what the weather was like. When we got there we had a great experience-weather only allowed for a 10min flight and a quick glimpse of Mt Tasman
From start to finish Mountain Helicopters were fantastic to deal with, family friendly and we all had a great trip out with them. Will be back to do a longer flight at some point. Highly recommend!

We thought our chance to see the glaciers was gone as several companies had turned us away, especially as their minimum is 3. We chanced a meeting with other fellow tourists who recommended Mountain Helicopters. Therese was so welcoming and made us feel so prepared before going up on their last flight of the day so saw the sun setting over the clouds. Michael and James were so knowledgeable about the glaciers and peaks and they took videos and photos of us to share at the end of our flight. Far better quality than what we could take. I recommend booking with this family owned small business especially if you are a small group. You will be guaranteed an experience of a lifetime!

We booked up last year for this and as stated in the email we contracted 24hrs before to confirm our flight,
However could not contact the company on either email or by phone as the number was no longer active.
After a 6hr journey to Franz Josef we found the ‘shack’ was actually closed and even the phone number on their was not active.
We still haven’t heard from them since.

We had the most amazing experience flying from Fox Glacier our pilot Michael was fantastic and was a wealth of knowledge the snow landing was a highlight but the views over Mt Cook and Tasman Glacier will remain with us forever. The booking and pre flight communications were perfect. We absolutely recommend this company to anyone looking for helicopter ride over the West Coast of New Zealand

We arrived into Fox Glacier late afternoon without a booking for a flight. We called around town asking about a flight up to the snow and the other three companies weren’t particularly helpful. Mountain helicopters were amazing! They gave us their options straight up and then said if we arrived at their office in the next 15 mins, they might be able to get us on a flight. Turns out all chopper rides up the glaciers must be 3 people minimum- not for price but for balancing the chopper. We arrived there and were immediately paired with another couple- we jumped in the courtesy van and were whisked away to the chopper. Within an hour of our arrival in town, we were staring into the face of Mount Cook and touching down on the snow for a snow fight and some great photos! We were lucky enough to have arrived when the skies were clear and flying was perfect.
The family run business was so lovely. They dropped us back, told us where to eat dinner and get breakfast in the morning and then wished us well while we went on our way.
Would happily travel up the mountains with them again and very happily recommend them to anyone looking to head up the glaciers.

We first travelled to Fox Glacier 3 weeks ago to be greeted by dismal weather. No flight for us!! We then circumnavigated the South Island, and re-travelled SH6 from Greymouth specifically to take this flight with Mike. It was so worth it. We flew over Fox, Franz, landed at the top of the glacier, took a walk, flew around Mt Tasman and Mt Cook. Words really can't describe it.
I totally recommend this flight, Mike, Therese, and the crew.

You mentioned you flew on a twin engine Squirrel Helicopter. Mountain Helicopters doesn't list that kind of aircraft. Maybe you flew with a different company?
