I live just up the road from this and am absolutely 100% certain that these falls are NOT located at 1235 State Highway 1. They are approximately 500 metres north of this at the rest area. I'd change this on the maps if I knew how. The falls themselves are pretty average but it's a nice way to break up... More

The falls are small but beautiful, it is a little walk to get there. Not suitable for toddlers or if you have difficulty walking a distance but something nice to do if you have a spare hour.

First of all, I and my friends had a nice walk, although of course there were few pros and cons. Path to a waterfall was fast and easy, but waterfall itself wasn't really impressive. The path to the Waterfall at Pohuehue is well maintained and an easy walk. Do not be put off by what seems to be the waterfall along the side of the track, keep going until you see the sign where the path divides and take the route to the left. We stopped in the rest area and noticed the sign of the Moirs Hill Walkway. Went do to the waterfalls and were quite nice. The walk was good to stretch the legs from driving

The good thing about traveling New Zealand in a Camper is the ability to stop when ever you see something of interest. Our tourist radio talked about Pohuehue falls we hadn't seen a waterfall to date so decided to stop and have a look, the car park is basically a rest stop on the side of the highway no toilets....
