A super busy walk with amazing views. Well marked track. It’s paved all the way but there are plenty stairs to help get the heart rate up especially if you stop in at the bays along the way. We took our snorkelling gear with us to Cathedral cove but the snorkelling was better at Gemstone bay on the way back.

Having been to the French Riviera, the coastal views on the Cathedral Cove walk are more stunning than the former. Iconic beautiful NZ coastal vista all along the walk.

We loved the day we spent walking the cove walk and checking the beaches on the way. The swimming at the end, at Cathedral Cove, was well worth the moderate effort it took to get there. Because we couldn’t park near the walk itself, I dropped my family up the top and then used the park and ride shuttle bus. This was reasonable priced ($6) and regular enough to be convenient.

After many visits to Hahei in the distant past, I had never walked to Cathedral Cove. This year decided to do it & very pleased I did. Although the path is up & down a bit, it is well sealed & around an easy 1 hour each way & I'm in my 70's! A couple of short side walks off the main track to other bays are interesting. The cove which you can walk through, is well photographed & has sandy beaches on both sides. It's all free unless taking the bus half way for $5 or take water taxi or hire kayaks

Walk is described as an easy walk which is understandable. But a deal of fitness is needed as a lot of it is up steep hills etc. Not ideal for people with knee issues like my partner. It is all paved which makes it easier especially for buggies etc. When you finally get to the Cove (around 40 mins) it is sensational. Not that busy due to the length of walk but certainly worth a visit.
