Exited the Central Subway stop for a business meeting, and with 2 hours to kill, was pleasantly surprised by the neighborhood. Two wonderful art stores, a few nice coffee shops, wonderful selection of restaurants, a quirky thrift store (Boomerangs), two lovely bookshops, and dozens of...More

Central still teems with life, unique thrift shops, record stores and more eateries than you can imagine. The streets are still full of all kinds of folks, just hanging out on the benches or dropping in for a quick bite. Many affordable places to eat...More

Lots of great restaurants, there's a theater (Central Square Theater), modern Asian grocery store with food court (H-Mart), and lots of new construction. And there's lots of homeless folks and aggressive panhandlers and a Goodwill Store, etc, etc. But Cheapo Records and The Middle East...More

Go up and down Mass Ave and you'll be able to find interesting gifts, great food from all over the world, and lots of coffee and tea. Good place on a Sunday afternoon for the family.

There are some interesting shops and cafes (Life Alive, 1369 Coffee House, Mainely Burgers, Pandemonium Books & Games), but they were few and far between.

Gentrification is closing in on Central Sq. There are still plenty of homeless, panhandlers, etc. but more young hip nicely dressed folks than in times past. Nice restaurants too.
