Walking inside the MIT corridors, around the buildings, in the library is a very inspirational experience that is recommended for all ages but especially for teenagers. Around the campus plenty of bookstores and f+b offerings.

You can do both in one day, they're close to each other and 2-3 hours at each campus Harvard and MIT is fine.

We visited both of those and the Museum of Science. I would also go check the Peabody museum at Harvard.
