We visited an impressive church, with a special altar for the apparitions of the Virgin Mary. I noticed beautifully finished statues of saints, stained glass windows. In the evening we witnessed an emotional service, with a very full hall. I was impressed by the choir of the faithful people. Behind the church there is a huge park, where there is a large altar with a statue of the Virgin Mary.
The main alley of the park has from place to place mosaics with illuminated mysteries and leads to a large metal statue of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As a characteristic of this statue is the fact that the knee leaves a liquid, which is collected by believers with special handkerchiefs and has curative properties against various pains.
I warmly recommend a visit here.

The church and of course Apparition Hill, where the Virgin Mary was sighted by local children is of course the centre point for the town and the reason why the faitful flock here from around the world. I am not one of them but nevertheless was curious to see what inspies them so much - I left none the wiser, but having had a nice lunch.
A loud and well attended service was in full swing when I arrived with room for plenty more outside as well - depsite the signs asking attendees to dress modestly I observed several overweight ladies wearing shorts entering and exiting the building. No one seemed to mind. I decided not to venture inside since I was also wearing mine so wandered around the outside instead. The area around the front has many benches etc to sit on and of course the famous statue of the focus of all this devotion while the back of the church fetaures a large outdoor seating area where I guess further forms of religious devoiton take place - great for the large groups I guess who visit the town.

All very beautiful, dedicated atmosphere to God! But one thing made our group indignant! They charge 15,00 Euros per name, to put the name at Mass! This is a real absurdity. Charge that amount to pray for someone! Unfortunate

I came here hoping to feel some semblance of spirituality but was sorely disappointed. Around the Church there are myriads of stalls and shops selling religious items of dubious taste. In the Church there is the most deafening noise of people speaking loudly without any respect for the sacred place. I respect those who choose it as their home, but it's not for me

Church of St. James the Great. The construction of the former parish church was completed in 1897, shortly after the creation of the parish (1892). It was a spacious and beautiful construction for his time. Made on unstable soil, however, soon began to present cracks. Immediately after the end of World War I, the parishioners began to think about building a new church. The construction lasted from 1934 until 19 January 1969, when it was consecrated. For Christians, it is an obligatory visit.

I visited on a Friday and was able to an attend Italian and French Mass. It was interesting how there was room for people to participate in whatever activity they felt compelled to join e.g. Mass, Rosary recitation, confession, adoration, walking the grounds, visiting the onsite bookstore / souvenir shop or just having a quiet time on the Church ground. The diversity of people, environment and varied activity truly fits with the biblical saying, "in my Father's house are many mansions". There is more than enough room for all who choose to visit. The view of the surrounding mountains (Apparition Hill & Cross Mountain) is fascinating. I was blessed by one of the priests and had the opportunity to join the locals and a priest in climbing up Cross Mountain to recite the Stations of the Cross.

Peaceful and bright interior and beautiful walking around the church area. You can sit where you like and rest or pray. About a kilometer walk to the hill is the sighting point. Clean WC and lots of shops with souvenirs around.

We did not spend much time here, as a christening was on. We went back in after the service had finished, but spent just a short time looking around as we only had an hour’s stay in Medjugorje.
I liked the look of the exterior, but inside was quite clinical - modern with no atmosphere. There was a lovely statute of The Virgin Mary though.

Definiately worth a visit!! They have various services and talks every day. The grounds are always open and available for walking and praying. Very well lit and safe to go there at night. A great place to meet and venture out to climb the nearby mountains.

Basic Roman Catholic Church (quite bare inside) with extensive mass schedule for pilgrims. Attended French-language mass with 11 priests and 1 deacon presiding. Dozens of confessionals on both sides of the church (outside) and large outdoor mass area at rear.
