We went there during September with my boyfriend. The seller (a young girl with brown hair) was very mean, rude and gave us a racist comment. It seemed like our presence bothered her and she made it very clear.
We came into the store & said hi, she didn’t even say hello and gave us a very cold look. We had a little tour of the store and her colleague (an older very friendly man at the door) asked “are you okay ?”
And she responded “no I can’t stand those people anymore especially the Germans ! They must be Germans !”
She said that right in front of us.
We said “thank you have a nice day” and we left, she didn’t even respond.

It’s sad because I’m sure this store has so much important things and people to represent. We don’t even know if there was supposed to be a little fire risks presentation or what so ever since the seller didn’t even say Hi :(

I would definitely recommend having a nicer person representing NY fire department.

And even if she doesn’t like Germans (??) she doesn’t have to be mean … She just gave us a racist image of the NYFD, while we are sure it is NOT the case of most firemen …

By the way, we are French, not Germans.

If you were having a bad day, that’s ok but it doesn’t justify your comments about German people …
And when customers say “hello” or “thank you have a nice day”, it costs nothing to respond, or even to smile :(

It is a small place, but packed with fun for the kids. Educational. It has a gift shop. Great place away from the hustle and bustle of Time Square.

We had a great time and it was totally worth stopping by. My son is obsessed with firefighting and loved seeing the cut down truck and equipment. The store attached to it had a lot of interesting items in it as well. The guy working the cash register as well as the firefighter standing out front were very friendly and courteous

We came across this place purely by accident. What a great wee place. Friendly staff and great gifts, we got a lovely book for our Grandchildren and my husband got a Tshirt. We felt buying here at least you know it is supporting the FDNY. Would be a great place for kids, a fire engine and equipment to try on.

It’s free to just come and climb on the fire truck. It’s just a small room with part of a fire truck kids can climb under. It doesn’t take much to impress a 2yo - he was happy with it!

I was really disappointed with how gruff and unfriendly the fireman were. Here is a 2yo that absolutely idolizes firemen, LOVES them. Once a fireman gave him a high five and he talked about it for months. It really doesn’t take much to make him happy (about 2 seconds to give a high five) and having someone there who is friendly and likes kids would have made this nice experience absolutely amazing.

Really cheaply made toys being sold for $15-20, but I expected that and I’m fine with it, we got to climb on the fire truck for free and they have to pay their rent somehow.

Do you have kids who think fire trucks are cool? Do you secretly want to be a firefighter? Do you want to learn about fire safety? Do you like supporting local institutions? Then you should visit.

Inside is: a fire truck, cut down to fit the space but fun to sit inside and see the different parts. A wall full of firefighting equipment and patches from various firefighting units. A room for fire safety demonstrations that looks like a burned out tenement. A gift shop with lots of toys and t shirts.

A visit on a weekday morning meant the space was blissfully empty and I spent about an hour and a half playing and perusing. The space is FREE and predominately does field trips to teach fire safety, so I would steer clear during school trips. The fire zone is run by retired firefighters and donations. Great for locals, tourists, and every kid who has ever marveled at a big red truck.

Fabulous place. The staff were so friendly and keen to have a chat/help where they could. We wanted to support the work they do and buy a present for our little boy who is mad about fire engines. Must better to buy from here because the money goes directly to FDNY. Would recommend a visit.

On our way back towards Time square we came upon this shop, we were invited to go in by the friendly Fireman standing outside. We were not disappointed it was so interesting and informative, we got to try on the outfits and sit in the fire truck. There is also lots of interesting displays to look at to.There is a very well stocked souvenir section. Looking at the trip Adviser phoeto's I wished we had stayed longer. I was well worth a visit
