- DivmercyNaples, Florida56 contributionsA must see in NYC!!!!The MET is a must see for anyone! I’m not really a big art person, but the MET offers something for anyone. I can’t say this enough, but do your research on lone to what sections and rooms you might to visit. This will allow you to get the most out of your visit. It can be a very overwhelming place as there is so much to see. After about three hours one can feel a bit over stimulated. I will definitely come back and tour other areas ! My favorite sections were the Music Instruments, The American Wing, European Painting 1250-1800, 19th and early 20th Century European Paings and Sculptures, and Medieval Art. And of course the gift shop was also very good. Nice selection of Met art, jewelry, books, and so much more.Visited March 2023Written 20 March 2023
- JackOld Bethpage, New York846 contributionsHuge! Full of History! Incredible!I went in March 2022 and it was an amazing experience! There is so much history! French, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, American, Turkish, Indian, Chinese, Native American, etc. It takes multiple days to fully see the whole museum. I recommend seeing the Temple of Dendur, European section, Egyptian, Roman, and Greek sections and the American section. I highly recommend this museum and I can proudly and confidently say that this is the best in NYC!Visited April 2022Written 21 March 2023
- Mariia SydorenkoNew York City, New York39 contributionsGreatFantastic way to spend an afternoon. So much history and amazing works of art all throughout. Avoid the MASSIVE ticket lines by buying online or using the mobile kiosk by the Egyptian section entrance. There are also some spots to grab a quick snack or drink that are beautifully hidden so as to not be distracting. Most visitors are respectful and there are employees at every corner. Be sure to visit every exhibit and area! There are great pieces in the American and European paintings but also the Greek and Roman sculptures and Asian works of art. Truly a massive display of artistic history!Visited February 2023Written 22 March 2023
- Laurene M382 contributionsNew York City Must-See--the Metropolitan MuseumGreat exhibits! We thoroughly enjoyed the Mayan and Dutch art exhibits. The crowds tend to congregate in the Impressionist paintings room, but it's possible to find exhibits that are just as interesting and not as crowded. We loved eating in the subdued dining room upstairs. Fantastic food and service.Visited March 2023Written 22 March 2023
- Explorer162 contributionsFascinating museumEnormous museum set in 8 buildings. We went on wet Thursday so it was very busy. There were long queues to buy tickets at the counter but on the opposite side of the central hall were a row of automatic ticket machines so we used this and paid by card. No queue there. Then we went to complimentary cloakroom to leaves coats - worth a visit to see the racking system! As you move around the museum you need to show your ticket. There is a free floor plan with a red dotted route but this is out of date as many rooms closed. The staff were friendly and helpful which was needed as the signage was poor. That said the exhibits were amazing - one of the staff recommended we view exhibition of 1929 B&W photos of NYC which was amazing. Huge variety of exhibits from Ancient Egyptian (including a temple)to American furniture. We ate in the basement eatery - again signing poor and queued for a while for hot food before realising there was separate area for sandwiches and salads. We weren’t the only ones. Food was very tasty.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 March 2023
- Jeffry bEssendon, Australia14,153 contributionsOne of the world's great museums"The Met" is one of the world's great museums. In NYC, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is simply known as "the Met." Its collection of art and antiquities numbers almost half a million artifacts. Among the most popular items on display are these from Ancient Egypt and classical Greece and Rome. The art collection includes examples of almost every prominent European painter, from Old Masters to Impressionists. It's easy to spend hall a day at the Met, and still not see everything.Visited February 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 2 April 2023
- realtravelprofAmsterdam, The Netherlands50 contributionsOne of the great museums in the worldOn of my favorite museums, anywhere. I have now visited fives of the course of several visits to NYC. The collection is huge; impossible to see everything on a single day. There is so much variety in the art works on display and the quality is so good that you can come back time and again and never get bored.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 April 2023
- moiraohLiverpool, United Kingdom13 contributionsAmazing but bring your own lunch! There's nothing more to say about the collections at the museum than absolutely amazing! Stunning art and antiquities wherever you turn. Also, the museum staff were really friendly and helpful. Fabulous experience. However, the food outlets are overpriced and with little choice. As an example a tuna sandwich cost 16.50, a small slice of banana loaf was 8 dollars and a bottle of water 4.50. If the quality had been great it might not have stung so much and - just a suggestion - but chillies do not need to be added to everything! I'm comparing the food to the cafe at MoMA (pricey but good quality) and the MFA Boston (tasty, fresh and more reasonably priced). If they can do it I'm sure the Met can. Would definitely visit again because the art is worth it but would advise against eating there.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 April 2023
- Angela NSaint Louis, Missouri24 contributionsStellar Collections - could spend days! There are so many stunning things to see and experience at the Met! Get the floor plan and strategize your day or days! We enjoyed the Ancient artifacts and the European paintings...so many classics. The American Wing was stunning...Washington Crossing The Delaware was so worth the time...especially since you passed some amazing Egyptian temples and historic items on the way! We went 2 times during our weeklong stay in Manhattan. Closed on Wednesdays!! So glad we took the A train to Dykeman Street to visit the Met Cloisters another morning. Quite the hike but beautiful and peaceful.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 April 2023
- andy y36 contributionsLarge collection, disorganized at timesThis museums basically spans thousands of years, and if you have a particular interest in something you can find a lot of things you'd like. A small downside of the Met is that there's no particular focus to the museum as a whole, and for visitors/tourists the museum can get too overwhelming. The most appropriate audience, I think, would be researchers or students.Visited January 2023Written 17 April 2023

I joined a guild tour (we were too stressed it would be full but it wasn’t. You just come and join). Dennis gave us a wonderful tour, so inspiring and informative. You could see that she is a true art lover and she enjoyed having a discussion about art with the group and answering questions, not just providing information. It was so great I joined another tour later, also excellent .
Be careful from guided tours by external guides. I was on a poor Statue of Liberty tour a day before and the same guy was leading a tour at the MET. I am sure he had nothing to do with art and it is disgraceful to ask for money for such a tour when you can have the real thing for free.

Fantastic Egyptian art and antiquities. All of the famous classic artists have work on display here. A great spot for a couple or a family. Can spend a full day here and not see everything. The cafes get pricey.

Love the museum, but why is it so hard to find a bottle of water? I felt like I was going to pass out. Endless walking and long lines at the café. It really needs to be easier to get water

The Met is like stepping into a time machine, but for art! It's got everything from old-school relics to mind-blowing contemporary pieces. Seriously, it's a feast for the eyes. Whether you're an art buff or just up for an adventure, The Met won't disappoint. Plus, it's basically a crash course in art history with a side of awesome vibes. Totally worth checking out!

I spent 3 and a half hours here and saw some of the medieval collection, plus the British galleries and the American Wing. For $30 I think it is excellent value - not much more expensive than other museums and there is so much to see, although you have to be selective and can't see everything in a day. Also, when a small bottle of water in the cafe costs $5.70, that makes the amazing art seem even better value! ;-) I visited at about 12.30 on a Monday - the entrance hall was busy and there was around a 10 minute wait in the queue for tickets but once inside I was surprised that it never felt crowded or noisy in the rooms I visited. There were plenty of people of course, but the museum is an absolute rabbit warren of interconnecting rooms and I was frequently the only person in a room at one time. I enjoyed seeing a mix of paintings, ceramics, furniture, and I particularly liked the period rooms in the American Wing, where fixtures and fittings have been transported from historic buildings and recreated. Amazing museum.

Extraordinary!! A must see in NYC!
Good for older children too - and they don’t pay.
You can spend many hours in there, the variety of art never gets boring! And the museum building is beautiful!
Super friendly staff.
The queue for the cloakroom was a bit long.

Blown away by it and I’ve visited lots of famous museums.
It’s huge, wish I’d had time in NY to visit twice as after 4hr in there I hit artefact and art overload.
Really didn’t expect to be impressed with the European history parts as there’s so much of this to see in the uk, but it was great.
Exhibits are very spaced out making it easy to walk around and also shows off artefacts brilliantly.
Art galleries also amazing, just wished I’d given the Guggenheim a total miss and spent 2 days at the Met.

Blown away by the number of Impressionist master pieces in this collection! Some of the sculpture gardens and floor to ceiling displays in the medieval collection were spectacular. We only had a few hours to spend at the MET, but I wish we could have spent half a day exploring the different collections.

Muchas gracias!

Yes. From the website, "All visitors with a valid student ID from any American or international school, university, or college are eligible for the student general admission ticket rate."
Is it still the case that tickets to the Metropolitan Museum are good for 3 consecutive days, including at the Cloisters? This 2018 article [ metro.us/the-met-is-no-longer-pay-what-you-wish-for-some-visitors/ ] suggests that's the case, as do some of the respondents on TripAdvisor. However, I don't see it mentioned on the Met website. Thank you!

Hi...Really sorry but I can not give you a factual answer to that question....you could easily spend three days in there....I would email the Met directly and ask them....Sorry couldnt help
