This place is popular with the locals - lots of runners and cyclists on a late weekday afternoon. Pleasant view of the Charles River, and generally a very pleasant walk even for the tourist. Other than the view and a few statues, not a lot...More

This area is popular with runners, cyclists and walkers ... and quite rightly too. Where the stage / bandstand is you can wander around the fringes of the grass taking in the significance of the several statues so placed and assessing their role in Boston's...More

The broad river is particularly attractive and affords excellent views of the city. There are lovely lawned areas to relax on.

There are a lot of reviews already, so I'll just say that if you have a chance to see a concert at the Hatch Shell, do it. It makes for a lovely, laid-back evening (unless it's the 4th or some other big deal). The Boston...More

Having lived in Back Bay for 20 years, we cherish this urban oasis to watch the sail boats or people watch or stare at the wildlife/water. Community boating is also a big attraction and great value, day rentals of kayaks are only $45! Cafe with...More

While exploring the city one early evening we came across this area. It was full of people enjoying the after work sunshine with picnics and drinks, there we even entertainment by a band practicing! Great place to walk around and soak up the atmosphere.

If you like to go for a nice walk, this is one of the best; between Canoe racing, and many sail boats; this is a great view of the city.

Lots of bugs on the gorund, so bring a picnic blanket or lawn chairs, get there early on July 3 or 4. Food choices were just fair. And water, bring only unopened bottles of water!!!!

The Esplanade is a wonderful place to just hang out on a nice day and watch what's happening on the Charles River Basin. Stroll along the river or just find a bench and watch sailing classes.

Bostonians take the Fourth of July serious and have been known to show up as early as 4:00 a.m. since they banned overnight camping. I believe the City now attempts to regulate this at 6:00 a.m. There is limited space and... More

I cannot give a specific answer because this is a very subjective question, which depends on what criteria are important for selecting the "best" spot. Typically the events at the hatch shell are extremely popular, drawing... More
