Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A nice little visitors' center: a few displays are broken and it's a tad dated. However, the view of the dam is spectacular, and the exhibits do a fine job explaining how it was built and how it works. Also, there is some geographic history of the area and information about the Crow nation who have lived in the area for the last ~300 years.
Don't miss the Yellowtail Dam Visitors' Center if you are in the Fort Smith area.

We wanted to see the Yellowtail Dam. First we saw some beautiful sceneries, near the Yellowtail Dam. Red mountains. Wow!

We also saw the river passing us by.

We went to the Yellowtail Dam and we saw people putting boats on the river.

It was happy that we could go close to the Yellowtail Dam.

Worthwhile to see!

Really enjoyed visiting the Visitors Center and walking around the exhibits and the viewing area. We also drove to the Mariana which is about 10 mile away on the Crow Reservation

It was a long drive from Garryowen to get here. Upon arrival at the visitor center we noticed that everything looks run down. Yes, the dam is impressive but the area around it is not. The hiking trails and campgrounds need maintenance. Don't waste your time and gas driving here.

Nice place the do short day visit. The drive was very scenic. The visitor center sits on top side of the dam and offers good view. Don’t forget to take the very scenic 10 mile drive to the marina. The ranger at visitor center will give you map.

This place is neat. Off the main path. About 1 hour from Little Bighorn. I'm not sure we would go back. It is good for people who are from surrounding states who have time to come back to this area. The staff was very knowledge and the view was amazing.

I took a trip to see the dam while on a recent jaunt through Montana. First, it is definitely well off the beaten path. That being said, it is very quiet and serene once you're there. The dam, reservoir, and river are very scenic. There is a visitors center at the dam where you can learn more about the construction of the dam and its benefits to the area. I would recommend going there if you don't have much going on. Otherwise, it's a long trip for a short stay. I bet there's good fishing there, though.

We spent a beautiful morning on the lake and did a little sight fishing for carp on the flyrod! It is a beautiful spot high above the Bighorn river

The ranger at the dam was very nice and helpful but the 40+ miles and over 1 1/2 hours of travel (yes it was that long because of the roads) was very unexpected. We would have gone to the other entrance to Bighorn Canyon National recreation Area if we would have known about this. We couldn't find the other entrance on the atlas. The dam and surround area near the dam was awesome though.
